Anthony Butt with "handy" chances at Cambridge tonight

By Dave Di Somma, Harness News Desk

Anthony Butt has been doing plenty of homework ahead of Cambridge's meeting tonight.

Having relocated from Australia earlier this year, Butt is now working at Stonewall Stud and is on duty up north with seven drives for the Steve and Amanda Telfer team, while Tim Williams has five for the stable at tonight's meeting at Addington.

"I'm pretty sure I haven't driven any of them before," says Butt, "but I've been studying the form and watching videos of both my horses and also the main opposition."

"I also talk a lot to Tim and to Steve (Telfer)," says Butt, "and think I have a good grasp of where we are at."

Butt has a number of "handy" chances.

"I'd say Ride The Waves is the stand-out, she looks pretty smart, she's one from one, has drawn well and the stable seem to have a high opinion of her."

The Downbytheseaside three-year-old filly won on debut for Williams at Alexandra Park on May 1.

Again she's drawn the ace in Race 7, the Garrards Horse and Hound Silk Road Fillies and Mares Heat 2 Mobile Pace (7.40pm). She's currently at $2.80.

Stablemate Sweet Maggie Mae ($5) also looks a live chance for Tony Herlihy, having drawn right behind Ride The Waves.

Other highly-favoured chances Butt is driving tonight include Sriracha ($3.30) in Race 5 (6.49pm). He's had just four career starts for one placing and draws handy at 2 tonight. Then there are the likes of Captains Secret (R2) at $4.60, SS Guppy (R3) at $7.50, and Joca's Hill ($6.50) in the last.

Butt also has a lot of time for Elizabeth Hill ($10) in Race 9, the New Winter Racing Dates at Cambridge Raceway Handicap Trot (8.39pm).

A four-race winner she was narrowly beaten by Son Of Patrick at her last start, at Cambridge on May 21.

"She loomed up to win but just came to the end of it," says Butt, "it was a nice run."

Son Of Patrick ($7.50) is again a race rival tonight while favouritism is shared between Loteria and Very Majestic, both at $4.60.

"I'd like to think I could win one or two tonight, that's what we are here for," says Butt.

Cambridge's 11 race meeting gets underway at 4.52pm.
