Alta Wiseguy wins tonight's New Brighton Cup
Leading trainers Steve and Amanda Telfer have made a statement ahead of the New Zealand Cup at Addington on Tuesday, November 8.
In tonight's Avon City Ford (New Brighton) Cup the brother and sister combo have produced the quinella with Alta Wiseguy winning and B D Joe producing the run of the race to finish second. B D Joe had bombed the start and came from last to make good ground on the winner.
Alta Wiseguy had been in impressive form at the trials with Tim Williams guiding the four-year-old gelding to his ninth win in 27 starts. He paid $5.30 and $2.
The winning time (2600 m) was 3:15.3.
Alta Wiseguy's win means he is now assured a spot in the New Zealand Cup, emulating the feat of Heza Sport who won last week's Maurice Holmes Vase.
It's been a big night for the Telfers who are leading the national trainers' premiership. They also won by hotpot Alta Meteor and Aardie's Express.
