Addington audition for Havtimewillfly at Winton

Brett Gray has one final mission to tick off before attacking the New Zealand Cup Carnival.

Gray has Miki’s Deal aimed at the Group 1 Nevele R Fillies Final and Haley Jaccka starting in the Group 2 Junior Free-For-All on New Zealand Cup Day.

The trainer has a team to target Show Day and next week’s classic races, which could increase depending on his results at Winton on Sunday.

Havtimewillfly, who starts in the final event at Winton, is being considered for an Addington raid.

While the filly’s recent form hasn’t been brilliant, she has been chasing New Zealand’s top three-year-old fillies.

“She is a nice filly but she hasn’t quite been on song in her last two starts.”

“We have given her a freshen up and she seems really well in herself now.”

“Her work has been right up to the mark so I would be hopeful she will be able to show something more like her best on Sunday.”

“If she runs well, she might head up to Christchurch.”

Anita Mary resumes alongside Havtimewillfly, giving Gray a strong hand in the race.

“She’s come up quite nice and I was happy with her last workout.”

“She will improve with the run but I am expecting her to go a handy race.”

Red Hot Filly Pepper ran a big race in her fresh up outing at Ascot Park late last month.

She looks a strong each way threat despite drawing on the second row over a mile.

“She had been working really well before that second.”

“She has sort of carried that on at home, she’s in a good space and she would have to be a chance again.”

Jaccka Henry has been a consistent performer for Gray and gets another shot at breaking through on Sunday.

“He’s going good and it looks a little bit of a drop back from last start, he should go good again from the draw (2).”

Gray starts another handy chance for owners Charlie and Ailsa Smaill in Ali Jaccka.

“She has done a great job so far and she is developing into a handy horse.”

“If she can handle the second row in the bigger field, she has the ability to be in it.”

Don’t Stop Believing has been making plenty of mistakes in the lead up to her Winton start.

But Gray is sure she can go a good race if she can bring her best manners.

“We have made a few wee changes with her that hopefully will help.”

“Her work has been really good and on ability she should be going close if she can trot the whole way.”

Gray has even more chances across the card, with a runner in every race on Sunday.

Arma Forest, Better Class and Better Time all look legitimate each way threats.
