Tuapeka Club Punting Plan
The Tuapeka Harness Racing Club have you covered on Dan Cummings Memorial Tuapeka Lodge Cup Day with a comprehensive punting plan.
Check out our race-by-race preview and suggested bets.
Tuapeka Tips: Race 1
A really even field to start the day, but first starter Haley Robyn (4) puts her hand up after a really smart qualifying performance at Winton.
The whole field has place claims behind her, but Rakareplay (1) goes ahead of the rest based on her sweet draw in barrier 1.
She should strip fitter following her fresh up fifth a fortnight ago.
Caster Semenya has also trialled well recently and Elouisa Dale is another to be considered.
She’s better than her plain debut 6th and could offer value.
Selections: Haley Robyn (4), Rakareplay (1), Caster Semenya (5), Elouisa Dale (7).
Suggested Bet: Win - Haley Robyn (4).
Tuapeka Tips: Race 2
Following a strong debut second at Addington Winnie McGoogan (3) looks hard to beat here.
Likely to be at short odds, punters may be looking for some value to put around her in Quinella, Trifecta and First4 bets.
In The Groove (7) is a must for any multiple bets, he just keeps fronting up and running great races.
Kiwi Heir (9) got it wrong in her last start but ran a cracking race prior and should be included.
Those looking for a bit of value should look towards Don Ameche (10) who has trialled well recently.
Selections: Minnie McGoogan (3), In The Groove (7), Don Ameche (10), Kiwi Heir (9)
Suggested Bet: Trifecta - 1st - Minnie McGoogan (3), 2nd & 3rd In The Groove (7), Don Ameche (10), Kiwi Heir (9) Tease My Tartan (4).
Tuapeka Tips: Race 3
Schiavone (3) deserves maximum respect in this line up, having produced handy form for a strike-rate stable.
This looks her race and she will have few excuses if she can’t fire.
Bonnie Prince Louie (2) has gate speed and could get a nice sit behind the favourite if she presses forward early.
He could offer place value and is a good quinella option with Schiavone.
Wonthavtime (6) is well capable of winning a race like this, though going in fresh up without any trials makes him harder to gauge.
Mach Quillan (9) is similar in that he has run some nice placings in the past and should also be considered.
Selections: Schiavone (3), Bonnie Prince Louis (2), Wonthavtime (6), Mach Quillan (9).
Suggested Bet: Quinella - Schiavone (3) & Bonnie Prince Louis (2).
Tuapeka Tips: Race 4
Draws look the key to this reasonably even field and after clinching barrier 3, Sacred Mountain’s (3) winning claims were cemented.
She’s been flying lately and should prove very hard to catch.
Dont Ask (8) is a trotter with ability and can test the favourite, there doesn’t look to be much between them, she just has to overcome barrier 8.
Jannah Jaccka drops in class for this race and should offer eachway backers some value.
Ruby Seddon looks next best.
Selections: Sacred Mountain (3), Dont Ask (8), Jannah Jaccka (6), Ruby Seddon (2)
Suggested Bet: Win - Sacred Mountain (3).
Tuapeka Tips: Race 5
Few could deny Unsurpassable (6) deserves to win this after running two great seconds behind to really smart horses in his last two starts.
Barrier 6 is a little tricky, but he should get his winning shot from there.
With A Bang (2) has trialled really nicely leading into his debut and can give the favourite plenty to chase from barrier 2.
Justalittlesip (7) has caught the eye in his two career starts and is an absolute must for Trifecta and First4 takers. With any luck from barrier 7 he can definitely win.
Tartan Raider (5) looks next best.
Selections: Unsurpassable (6), With A Bang (2), Justalittlesip (7), Tartan Raider (5)
Suggested Bet: Boxed Quinella - Unsurpassable (6), With A Bang (2), Justalittlesip (7).
Tuapeka Tips: Race 6
Emma’s Boy (3) hasn’t been in the form of his life, but a few of these horses are in the same position and from barrier 3 with a nice last start third at Addington, he looks hard to beat.
Brigadier’s Son’s (5) progress was only stopped in his last start because of a tough draw and returning to a handy front line spot makes him another leading win threat.
Fireforfiddle (1) went a cracking race in his last start and must be considered from barrier 1.
Draw at the other end of the spectrum, Lynryd Skynrd (11).
Selections: Emma's Boy (3), Brigadiers Son (5), Fireforefiddle (1), Lynryd Skynryd (11).
Suggested Bet: Suggested Bet: Eachway - Brigadier’s Son (5)
Tuapeka Tips: Race 7
A very even line up and each one of the top 4 selections should offer eachway backers a good run for their money.
Midnitetraintogeorga (6) ran a creditable fourth in her last start in a stronger field, alongside her prior from, she’s top pick.
Insarchatwist (4) comes in on the back of a nice first up effort without having trialled, so she should strip fitter.
Rakastella (13) disappointed in her last start and cops a tricky draw here but her maiden win was outstanding and she shouldn’t be dropped.
American Eyretime (10) is as well performed as any horse in this line up and is a serious winning hope, she just needs a little luck from her barrier 10 draw.
Selections: Midnitetraintogeorga (6), Insarchatwist (4), Rakastella (13), American Eyretime (10).
Suggested Bet: Suggested Bet: Eachway - Midnitetraintogeorga (6).
Tuapeka Tips: Race 8
Robyns Playboy (4) shoots for three Tuapeka Cups in a row and he looks a massive chance of completeing the hat-trick.
His recent efforts against the New Zealand Cup horses have been outstanding and he’s clearly the horse to beat.
Johnny Mac (7) was outstanding first up at Winton last week and the small field plays to his high speed.
Memphis Tennessee is a tough type and if he can step away cleanly and get near the pace he should take plenty of catching.
Somekindawonderful (5) is another fast type who is suited to this smaller field and Chuckles (3) is another genuine top 4 chance, too.
Selections: Robyns Playboy (4), Johnny Mac (7), Memphis Tennessee (6), Somekindawonderful (5).
Suggested Bet: Suggested Bet: Win - Robyns Playboy (4).
Tuapeka Tips: Race 9
This is a really strong and even line up with a number of quality horses to choose from.
Idealism (5) was very unlucky first up and caught the eye when winding up late.
He has a touch of class which should help him overcome barrier 5, on the outside of another leading hope in Quaddie VC (2).
This horse has a big motor and if he can find the front early he should take some catching.
I'mallaboutthebase (6) ran a ripping race first up and has gate speed to help her settle handy from barrier 6, she’s a strong winning hope.
Love On The Rocks (9) has a tricky draw but with the right kind of luck he should be finishing off well into a top 4 spot.
Selections: Idealism (5), Quaddie VC (2), I'mallaboutthebase (6), Love On The Rocks (9).
Suggested Bet: Suggested Bet: Eachway - Idealism (5).
Tuapeka Tips: Race 10
Those looking for a safe option in the last shouldn’t go past Jody Direen (6).
She just keeps fronting up and running great races and there looks to be no reason she won’t do it again.
Pay Me Speed (7) has trialled well leading into this and she has taken on tougher fields in the past, so she’s a strong winning hope as well.
Wattlebank Star (4) is in a similar position, coming in fresh up after taking on some nice three-year-olds last season.
Especial (8) brings decent Addington form to this race, if she can get handy from barrier 8 she should also give plenty of cheek.
Selections: Jody Direen (6), Pay Me Speedy (7), Wattlebank Star (4), Especial (8)
Suggested Bet: Suggested Bet: Eachway - Jody Direen (6).
