The Trials Report - Six of the Best

These six horses have trialled pleasingly in recent weeks and this week 12/6/25 they head back to the racetrack.

Just Like Jagger (3f Vincent – Machjagger) Tr. K Green

Only had the 3 starts but good enough to win on debut as a 2YO on the grass at Wingatui back in December. Back at the Invercargill workouts 30/5/25 and came from last of 5 on a slushy track to just miss picking up She’s Crunchy (see later). MR:2:12.2, 800m in 61.7, 400m in 29.4. Didn’t have all favours third up at Invercargill last week when sixth behind Cracker Opie and within 7L of the winner. Goes back to Invercargill this Thursday in Race 8 in an even line up but did catch the eye in that recent workout. Looks promising.

Allaboutluv (3f Always B Miki – Luvtahavtime) Tr. O Lawrence

Only qualified recently (8/6/25) but never got really clear when fourth of 5 at Wyndham. Close up behind winner Shootforthestars MR:2:06.4, 800m in 59.7, 400m in 29.1. Had been a multiple workout winner prior to that effort through March – May at Winton/Wyndham. Goes to Invercargill this Thursday (Race 4) where she has drawn the inside of the second line. Naturally, she will be better for the experience but should get an economic trip from there. Dam was a winner and has already left a 1:57 winner. This filly is only her second foal. Second dam left Pembrooks Delight (9 wins + $137k) so there is some breeding to support a positive race career.

American Me (8g American Ideal – Bella Me) Tr. B & T White

Went to the Rangiora trials 4/6/25 and easily accounted for 7 rivals after starting from 30m behind. Got to fifth of 8 in single file before sweeping around to lead last 1400m, clear 500m and not extended to stay in front. MR:2:03.7, 800m in 56.7, 400m in 28.0. The winner of 14 races and $342k and thrives on the longer trips. Racing over 2700m at Auckland this Friday in Race 4 where he has to give only four rivals a start. Two of those rivals 20+ rating points inferior and two rivals unruly from the stand so looks something of a ratings special in this. Also penalty free if driven by a Junior driver.

Rockingood (4g A Rocknroll Dance – Good Girl Becqui) Tr. B Hill

Ran a really nice second to open class pacer American Me in the above trial at Rangiora. Taking some ground off the winner in the last 150m. Had been racing well for minor placings in fast mile rates since winning back in April and cops a nice draw in Race 3 at Addington this Friday. Only had the nine starts with only 1 win but with another 6 placings to his credit. Trainer has been patient and this looks an assignment well within his range. Progressive type.

She’s Crunchy (3f Captain Crunch – Dakota Grace) Tr. N Williamson

Multiple trial/workout winner in the deep south in recent weeks who has chosen to come north for her race debut at Addington this Friday in Race 9. Dam won five and her first foal has won seven to date and race timed in 1:54. Her latest workout win was at Wyndham (30/5/25) where she trailed then used the passing lane to finish best (see times above). It was raining hard and the track was slushy on that occasion. Top southern stable most likely using her as a travelling ‘mate’ for Always Dreaming (Race 7). Race 9 not overly strong on paper though and a bold debut from a handy draw would not surprise.

Show Stopper (2f Downbytheseaside – Hear The Cheer) Tr. C & C Dalgety

Looked very smart in qualifier at Rangiora (4/6/25) where she showed gate speed to lead then sprinted last 800m in 56.6 on a showery day to score easily by 3 1/4L. MR:1:59.5, 400m in 28.2. Had earlier won a workout on the same track at the end of May. Goes to Addington on Sunday for her debut (Race 6) where she has drawn the outside of the gate against six rivals. Four of those rivals also on debut including a couple of nice colts. Astute stable will have her ready to rumble.
