The Race by Grins sweepstake launched

Waikato Bay of Plenty Harness Inc. has launched a sweepstake with a prize pool of $100,000 for The Race by Grins on April 14, at Cambridge Raceway.

A total of 2,000 tickets for the sweepstake will be sold at $100 each. Ten tickets will be drawn 6pm on April 6, 2023, each of the 10 tickets drawn will then be allocated a horse, which will run for them in The Race by Grins to win cash prizes.

The ticket holder allocated the first placed horse will win $50,000, second $20,000, third $12,000, fourth 6,000 and fifth to tenth will receive $2,000 each.

“We’re excited to be adding another element to The Race by Grins, which creates an opportunity for more people to have a stake in New Zealand’s equal richest race,” Cambridge Raceway CEO Dave Branch said.

Funds raised by the sweepstake will contribute to the $1 million stake of The Race by Grins, which received less funding than expected from Harness Racing New Zealand in its second year.

There are currently six confirmed runners for the slot race, Old Town Road for slot holders Hydroflow, Better Eclipse for PI & GJ Kennard Bloodstock Ltd, Akuta for Cullen Breeding Ltd, Self Assured for SENZ, Copy That for Summit Bloodstock, Aaron Bain Racing, Richard Cole, Glenn Holland, Stephen Hunt and Trevor Casey and B D Joe for Aussie Lads.

Sweepstake tickets are available from Friday March 10 and can be purchased online at www.nightofchampions.nz/sweepstake or in person from the Cambridge Raceway office or The Clubhouse, Cambridge.
