Team Teal gears up for big last fortnight
By Dave Di Somma, Harness News Desk
Team Teal will have their biggest day of the campaign so far at Westport on Friday.
There will be four women's only races, ensuring a real boost to the annual fund-raiser.
The campaign kicked off on February 1 and finishes in less than a fortnight on March 16. Every time a female driver wins a race over the six weeks money is donated towards ovarian cancer research by HRNZ, clubs and individual sponsors.
So far there have been 40 wins and just over $10,000 raised, with Sam Ottley leading the way with 10 wins, and the in-form Sheree Tomlinson next on seven.
For Ottley it's a return to the scene of her record-breaking efforts in December. She had five winners on Boxing Day to claim a history-making 100 wins for 2024, the first time a female driver had done so in a 12 month season in this country. She then returned to Patterson Park two days later and had four more wins as she finished 2024 with 108 wins overall.
Following Westport there will be another series of Team Teal races at Reefton on Sunday.
Friday's four Team Teal races will be :
Race 2 : Criterion Hotel Team Teal Trot (2.31pm)
Race 6 : TRT Builders Team teal Trot (4.49pm)
Race 7 : Jennian Homes Team Teal Pace (5.21pm)
Race 11 : BP2GO Westport Team Teal Pace (7.29pm)
On Friday, March 14 a major Team Teal fund-raiser will be held at Addington Raceway.
The evening, starting at 5pm, will include dinner and drinks, raffles and other entertainment as well as the final of the Frocks at the Trots competition.
Heats have been held around the country with the best dressed heading to Christchurch. The first prize is a flights and accommodation package to Australia.
High profile radio personality Hilary Muir from The Breeze will be MC at the event and the judging panel will include Instagram Influencer and BONNIE Skin business owner Mary Oh.
