Suva Baby in for busy few days down south

By Jonny Turner

Suva Baby has a goal to kick at Winton today if she’s to take her place as one of the favourites for Sunday's  Group 3 Macca Lodge Kindergarten Stakes.

The two-year-old has opened as the early favourite for both her two-year-old fillies assignment at Winton and the  juvenile feature at Wyndham.

Two smart trial efforts for the Cran and Chrissie Dalgety stable are sure to be the reason the TAB bookies have Suva Baby so short in each race’s market.

The filly will line up against her own sex in Winton’s Dynes Legacy event for two-year-old fillies on Thursday.

From barrier two, she should take plenty of catching.

“Her trials have been quite pleasing and she’s a progressive filly, so we are hopeful she can run well,” Cran Dalgety said.

“There are a few unknowns there with it being her first start a long way from home, but if she can handle the experience, she should be very competitive.”

“She’s quite a professional wee girl, so hopefully she can take it all in her stride.”

While the Dalgety camp plan to back Suva Baby up in the Kindergarten Stakes, plenty hangs on the filly’s performance on Thursday.

“We will monitor how she comes through the race at Winton and make a call.”

“We do plan to be there on Sunday, but she will tell us.”

“She’d need to run well on Thursday too, but we are expecting her to.”

Suva Baby clashes with the first three horses home in the recent Group 3 Fillies Classic at Ascot Park in Validation, Aaliyah and Baileys Beauty.

Carter Dalgety takes the reins behind Suva Baby in her debut, as well as linking up with the good winning hope, Rondo Trouble.

The Lyndon Bond trained trotter chased the impressive Mister into second placing in his last start at Gore.

The trotter takes a decent step back in grade on Thursday in maiden company.

Dalgety also links up with Geena’s Gift for the Bond stable.

The five-year-old is heading in the opposite direction to her stablemate, stepping up in grade after a tidy last start victory at Ascot Park.

Dalgety also links up with Paradise Valley, Durrant and The Real Crunch.
