Roxburgh good to go for January 4

By Dave Di Somma -Harness News Desk

The Roxburgh track has had a major re-jig as it counts down to its popular meeting early in the New Year.

“They have realigned the track and of yesterday they have spread 300 ton of new sand,” says Harness Racing New Zealand’s Track and venue Inspector, John Denton, “the hard working committee has done a great job and it will be good to go.”

Problems at the track only came to light this month.

“The annual review on December 6 found some disrepair,” says Denton, “high winds had exposed the track’s sub base.”

Since then contractors, including some who are also committee members at the Roxburgh Trotting Club, swung into action to ensure the track will be good to go for their annual meeting on January 4.

“Everything looks good, it’s a great surface.”

“With just one race meeting a year, and depending on how many trials they have, the track should be alright for 6-7 years.”
