The Northern Southland Trotting Club has provided a comprehensive betting guide for today’s meeting at Ascot Park

Race 1 :

Punters face an even and competitive race to kick off today’s meeting.

Peregrine has shown a real touch of class this season and though she comes in fresh she should be very hard to beat.

Resolve commands big respect both on her form and the fact she’s from the powerful Paul Nairn barn.

Kiwitrix measures up very well on talent and also has strong winning claims.

With the form he is in Franco Josiah must be considered, though he is stepping up in class.

Race 2 :

Saint Waitaki brings solid Canterbury form to this race and drawing barrier 1 brings him right into contention.

Speights On Tap is as talented as any horse here but ran a shocker in his last start.

His latest trial suggests he can bounce back.

Changearound has been running on strongly recently and must be considered in Trifectas and First4s.

Cool Idea runs a little hot or cold, if she is in the right mood expect a big performance.

Race 3 :

Princess Kennedy comes into this after a strong effort for second at Winton and she’s landed a key advantage over several of her rivals with her handy draw.

Mahindi produced an outstanding last start effort in the same race at Winton but faces a big task from barrier 8. She can still feature.

Hey Miki Denario may offer the best value for punters.
She didn’t get much luck in her debut but gets a huge upgrade in draw in this race.

Chogi should also be considered, her latest trial effort was good.

Race 4 :

The leading hopes in this race have all copped tricky draws and it looks like Sherwood Maggie has come up with the best of them.

Her form has been very consistent lately and she would deserve a win.

Viburnum ran an excellent race in his latest outing at Ascot Park.

His barrier 9 draw looks very tricky but if he gets any clear running he must go close to winning.

Major Bond ran a good race at Winton last time and should be fitter for that outing.

Tiger’s Watching ran a massive race in her last start. Beginning from the unruly is no easy task but she can win.

Race 5 :

Mach Quillan hasn’t had a lot of luck lately but from barrier 2 he should get the chance to make his own.

The Other Brother is clearly good enough to win but ran a shocker here in his last start.

With his best effort he is right in this.

Woodlea Diego is a consistent type, well up to mixing it with this field.

The Big Lebowski impressed with his fresh up win at Winton. Though this race is harder he looks capable of making an impact.

Race 6 :

Watchlist has shown he has a huge motor and now he has the chance to test it against a really good field.

Street Hawk was really good in his last outing at Winton and from barrier 1 he will be a key player in this race.

Cantfindabettorman disappointed fresh up at Winton but strips fitter for this and is too classy to risk.

Mossdale Ben is as smart as many of the horses in this race but he has copped a tough draw in barrier 6.

Race 7 :

Another very even race with plenty of talented fillies but little exposed form.

Micaitlen Denario impressed in her trials prior to her solid debut third.

From barrier 4 she should be very hard to beat.

Take It Out was good at Winton in her debut and has crucially landed barrier 1 which brings her right into contention.

Treacherous Gal was very strong in winning at Winton last week, but she does give away a barrier advantage to most of her rivals.

Cardi B is another that has drawn well and deserves good respect.

Suggested Bet: Micaitlen Denario (4) – Win

Race 8 :

Himself brings great Canterbury form to this race and looks to have a real class edge on his rivals. Even with his tricky draw he looks one of the bets of the day.

Smokin Annie is a very honest mare who is drawn well and looks a strong top 3 hope.

Port Au Prince looks suited to his handy draw and can play a role in Trifectas and First4s.

Beauty Barry measures up with most of this field and should produce a decent first up effort.

Race 9 :

This is a very even race with at least six genuine winning hopes.

Pick one and you should get a great run for your money.

Above N Beyond comes through strong Canterbury fields and he looks hard to beat despite an ordinary last start effort.

Paddyproudfoot has real class and has won fresh up before, so expect him to go a big race.

Tairlaw Toll and Doctor Tim both look strong eachway hopes.

Peroni and Love On the Rocks can also give plenty of cheek from the front line.

Race 10 :

In another very even line up Ruby Seddon looks well placed to notch a deserved win.

Her form is very solid and back on grit after her last start on grass looks a big help.

Sundons Flyer disappointed in her last outing at Oamaru but her prior form was very good.

She should give each way backers a great run.

Andiamo has the talent to win this race and though she can be risky her last start here was very good.

Westland Peak is similar, she has a motor but she can be very risky.

Race 11 :

Come Together brings great form to this race, which combined with her great draw in barrier 2 should make her very hard to beat.

Ann Maree has the class to test the favourite, her recent efforts in strong fillies races have been very good.

Meohmymartini fought hard to win her last outing at Winton and looks a decent top 3 hope.

Livy Desma ran on nicely in her last start and could offer some value for Trifecta and First4 takers.
