Northern Southland Yaldhurst Hotel Team Teal Cup Day

There will be great racing, great prizes and a great cause at the Northern Southland Trotting Club Yaldhurst Hotel Team Teal Cup Day at Ascot Park Raceway in Invercargill this Saturday.

It is a major day for the club with three Group 3 races - the Yaldhurst Hotel Northern Southland Trotting Cup, the Prydes Easifeed Southern Lights Handicap Trot and the Caduceus Club Of Southland / Alabar Fillies Classic plus the En Solitaire Southland Trotting Oaks.

The meeting will be the last in the southern region as part of the 2020 Teal Pants Campaign, a nationwide harness racing initiative to raise funds for the fight against Ovarian Cancer. Dress in teal or even just sport a touch of teal in your outfit and you can win one of many spot prizes on the day including Bluff Oysters or Tip Top Memphis ice creams.

If you don’t possess any clothing of teal colouring you can purchase teal merchandise on course, such as ties, ribbons and wristbands, to supplement your outfit and go into the running for a wonderful spot prize. The club is also encouraging people to bring along teal cars or hold teal themed boot parties in the car parks. There will also be a celebrity obstacle race, the Team Teal Dash For Cash (see below) with the ability to back your favourite competitor by pledging money to them through the Southern Harness Racing Facebook page.

It is also the last chance this season to win one of two trips to Stewart Island courtesy of Stewart Island Flights. Simply by putting your losing tote tickets in the barrels around the course with your name and contact details on the back, two people will be drawn to win flights to Stewart Island just before the last race of the day.

Owners can head to the Alabar Owners Room on the first floor where they can enjoy hospitality throughout the day while an Owners Prize draw will culminate with the announcement of one of the three prizewinners who will take one of three season prizes – first a trip for two people to the Rowe Cup in Auckland with accommodation, rental car and a tour of Alabar Stud courtesy of House Of Travel Lakers and Alabar, second an afternoon hosted at Macca Lodge followed by an evening meal and accommodation in the motel at the Waikaia Hotel and third one night accommodation at the Ascot Park Hotel courtesy of the ILT which will be decided at the end of the season.

Access to the Top of the Park costs just $40 for a great day of hospitality.

The first race is scheduled for 12 noon and admission on the day is free.
