No IDs for The Lazarus Effect
By Adam Hamilton
The Inter Dominion dream is over, at least for this year for young Kiwi star The Lazarus Effect.
Kiwi and Aussie fans got excited when Bob Butt’s five-year-old was nominated for the Brisbane series in July.
And even more excited when he came in sixth in the first set of rankings.
But just hours later, Butt and connections made the decision to skip the series.
That’s despite The Lazarus Effect’s fantastic past month of Group 1 racing in Auckland where he won the Taylor Mile and ran second to Got The Chocolates in the Roy Purdon and last night’s Messenger.
“It was another fantastic run last night to get beaten by a future champion (Got The Chocolates),” Butt said.
“We’re so proud and excited with how far he’s come in a short time.”
Butt feels a break now is best for The Lazarus Effect.
“We’re going to pull the pin on Brisbane,” he said. “We can give him a spell now. My thinking is if we look after him now, we can race here in Spring and then take him over for the Aussie summer.”
The Lazarus Effect has raced just 19 times for 11 wins, six seconds, a third and banked almost $300,000.
