New Horse care regulations 2022
Horse Care Regulations
On August 31, 2022 the HRNZ Board approved the introduction of the Horse Care Regulations.
These regulations have been prepared following consultation with our owners, trainers and breeders through two rounds of consultation in January/February 2022 and June 2022.
The regulations were also consulted on with industry vets, the Racing Integrity Board, Ministry for Primary Industries, the National
Animal Welfare Advisory Committee and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals over the last eight months.
The regulations adopt the principles of the five domains model for animal welfare, and meet at least the minimum standards set out in the animal welfare legislation; the Animal Welfare Act and the Code
of Welfare for Horses and Donkeys.
These regulations will come into effect on October 1, 2022.
