Q&A with Nathan Williamson

1: Best horse who have ever been associated or worked with:
Springbank Richard: super talented and took me all over Australasia.

2: Best horse you have ever seen live:
Lazarus: short distance or long distance, big tracks or small tracks, stand starts or mobiles it didn’t matter! He was a champion!

3: Best horse you have seen in any form (live, on tv, on the internet):
Varenne: Italian trotting superstar

4: If you could have any driver in history driving for you in most important race of your life, it would be:
Anthony Butt: In the big races he’s where he wants to be at all times, also has super hands on a trotter. Anthony Butt: In the big races he’s where he wants to be at all times, also has super hands on a trotter.

5: The best trainer you have ever seen:
Mark Purdon: His handling/ driving of his champion horses is second to none.

6: Your favourite racetrack:
Ascot park - I’ve had a lot of wins there.

7: The unluckiest or hardest to swallow defeat of your career:
Southern supremacy stakes 2015: I got beat a nose on a great wee horse I trained called Tas Man Bromac in the last stride, it’s a race I have never ever watched, he was the best 3yr old in the province and I felt he deserved to win it, it was a drive I would have back too because I drove to beat what I thought was my biggest danger(Pulp Fiction) and we did that but a roughie came off my back and beat me on the post..

8: The race you have never won but would love to:
Supremacy stakes for all the above reasons and that it’s the premier race for 3yr olds in our region

9: The horse we never got to see the best of:
Dark horse: super talented horse and due to injury she hasn’t (yet) reached the levels I’m sure she was capable of... hopefully this season she can change that

10: The racing win, yours or somebody elses, that gave you the most joy:
Marcoola winning the Dominion Handicap, I was thrilled to see him win for Clint Ford and the way he did it was impressive to watch.. real honest hard working people getting success on the big stage

11: Who is the person in harness racing you haven’t seen since lockdown started you are looking forward to seeing the most when we get back to the track:
Bruce Young - the Judge at Southern race meetings.
