King of Swing confirmed for first start since Miracle Mile win
By Adam Hamilton
The wait is over.
The “King” of Aussie harness – King Of Swing – will return at Menangle on Saturday week in a 2300m free-for-all.
It will be his first run since successfully defending his Miracle Mile crown at Menangle back on March 6.
Co-trainer and driver Luke McCarthy was buzzing after partnering King Of Swing to an easy trial win over stablemates Bright Energy and Bettor Enforce at Menangle on Wednesday morning.
“He’s ready to go, has been for a couple of weeks, but this just sharpened him up for next week,” McCarthy said. “He felt terrific. He’s come back really well.
“He’s got the two runs here (Menangle) and then it’s up to Sydney for those two big races (Sunshine Sprint July 17 and Blacks A Fake July 24).”
Bettor Enforce, who will also resume Saturday week, is another of Team McCarthy’s stars headed for the Queensland “Constellations.”
“She’ll probably have a couple of runs here too, then the new race (The Golden Girl) is her target (in Brisbane),” McCarthy said.
Top class former Kiwi pacer Mach Shard and Chariots Of Fire winner Expensive Ego will also be part of Team McCarthy’s Queensland raid.
