Jason Teaz's tips for Manawatu

Form analyst Jason Teaz gives a detailed race by race lowdown of Manawatu on Tuesday

Race 1  4.04pm

11 Kristofferson
4 Our Pegasus Pearl
10 Abadabadoo
2 Get On The Sauce

KRISTOFFERSON has changed stables to now be trained here by Andre Poutama. Brings strong Auckland and Cambridge form south. Only has to behave to be near a good thing.
OUR PEGASUS PEARL won at Westport March 12, then was allowed to miss day two at Reefton. Still learning but on the southern form, rates highly.
ABADABADOO did a number on a few of these last Tuesday. This field is significantly stronger though but again on the southern form will be competitive again.
GET ON THE SAUCE is still just a maiden but with a 30m start on her rivals. Seemingly can trot 3:19 off the front but that hasn't quite been enough. Always a first four chance but needs to lift more to win.
MAJESTIC HARRY faces a stern test off 50m. Can't win but if he can negotiate the bad mannered ones, he can definitely place.
MACKALI has depreciated a little of late but still is only off the 30m and still has a long enough start over most that with her token clean start she can run in the first four.

Race 2 4.31pm

10 The Sportsman
4 Chris Kyle
8 Barbarossa
2 Wriggles Rufus

THE SPORTSMAN made the black book last Tuesday. Ended up buried on the pegs off the second row draw but made up plenty in cramped quarters. Again draws the second row but remains the top selection.
CHRIS KYLE resumes here today since September where he had his chances and looked a little weak. So sent here first up illustrates he hasn't jumped out of the ground yet. Did run third in a sedate workout March 19. Each way.
BARBAROSSA ran third on day two of the November meeting here. Hasn't trialed or raced since. But should have filled into his big frame more now. Watch closely for day two.
WRIGGLES RUFUS is getting closer to that win. Should lead again today and take plenty of stopping.
IT'S A LAUGH has been disappointing in the north so far. David Butcher back on today could make a difference.
ZIP CODE is the sole race winner in the field. Enjoying this company and even from the outside draw has to be considered.
SECRET DREAM is the best bred horse in here and showed some gate speed last week. Another who should have improved a little on that run.

Race 3 5.01pm

5 Wet Flipflops
9 Khal Drogo
6 Supasundae
4 Somedreamsomewhere

WET FLIPFLOPS started her career with a splash but has looked off her game since heading to Auckland at start three. Can rough it if need be more than these and the senior driver up today is a big change.
KHAL DROGO is way better than a maiden however sometimes his manners haven't crossed the Cook Strait in previous runs here. On his Westport placing he's a big danger.
SUPASUNDAE hasn't shown a huge amount at the trials but did win a workout March 19 at Pukekohe. Drawn out a bit on debut but consider for a first four spot.
SOMEDREAMSOMEWHERE won five out of seven trials before starting racing but hasn't looked the same horse race day. Sitting parked was too tough last Tuesday but from a better draw today should find the markers and show something.
ELEPHANTINTHEROOM is on debut today. Bred to be speedy and has been consistent trial day. Watch.

Race 4 5.26pm

12 Kayla Maguire
11 Budvar Eyre
8 The Blue Beat
4 Midnight In Memphis

KAYLA MAGUIRE deserves a winning turn. She's actually been here before in a previous life as a maiden when Jim Curtin trained her. Placed both times so handles the track well. 2500m won't scare her either. Should win.
BUDVAR EYRE has run two nice races in recent weeks. Did struggle after winning his maiden first up here but driven with a sit he's potent. Again the distance suits.
THE BLUE BEAT is well placed here as a three win horse. He won here last year too. Only negative is the tricky one on the second row draw. Yes he follows out a horse with gate speed but, is very weak at the business end. A chance if the leader gets her to the lane.
MIDNIGHT IN MEMPHIS is knocking on the door for win two here. Her maiden win was over the 2500m too.
PETER FORSBERG is the likely leader but had his chance from this draw last week too. Place hopes look best.
For odds, SILVER LADY has been unlucky a few times here The extra distance will suit her better than some.

Race 5 5.52pm

6 Superbass
3 Brookies Jaffa
5 Eagle Watch
7 New York Minute

SUPERBASS put the writing on the wall with a strong trial March 19. Sat out the back and looped them from the 800m before dominating his rivals last Tuesday. This is tougher and will need the speed on again. Still a big hope.
BROOKIES JAFFA was extremely unlucky March 18. Led early but ended up locked away three back on the pegs and got stopped in his tracks. Narrowly beaten in Manawatu cup prelude here in November so cops this track.
EAGLE WATCH is a track specialist. Hasn't raced this year after enjoying a well earned freshen up. May need the run today but is an athletic horse so can be thereabouts.
NEW YORK MINUTE got locked three wide at Auckland on derby night so forgive that. Barrier seven makes it tough for his sit sprint style but is so consistent.
SPIRIT OF ANZAC has now won seven races. Was in the right spot when winning March 19. This hasn't always been his track.
Same could be said for AMERICAN ME. Eleven starts here for just one win. He's been racing a notch down on his best lately. Jay Abernethy being reunited with him helps but needs to lift to win this.

Race 6 6.20pm

2 Hezashadowplaya
1 Rough And Ready
4 Sir Brigadoon
6 The Kapiti Express

HEZASHADOWPLAYA gets a dream draw for him of barrier two. With his gate speed he leads and will take stopping. Ignore the last start. Sitting parked is not his go.
ROUGH AND READY will enjoy the sweet run from barrier one. Drops back a little in grade tonight. A big danger up the passing lane.
SIR BRIGADOON faces a rise in class tonight. His two wins here have been in weak lineups. He will no doubt start favorite but is no past the post certainty.
THE KAPITI EXPRESS gets a reversal in draws today. Hs enjoyed being such a lowly rated horse in the main paces. Needs to either lead or sit parked to figure.
SCELTA UNO should be no worse than three back on the pegs and drops out of country cup grade racing on the coast. Back to mobile conditions and a return to a track she has won six races on says she's a roughie.

Race 7 6.45pm

5 Smokin Annie
7 Rake
3 Carse O Fern Tom
1 Adieu Flirt

SMOKIN ANNIE is a progressive type. Looked a certainty March 16 and delivered. Chased home Sir Brigadoon last Tuesday in a stronger field. Sure to have the respect factor here.
RAKE is a five win horse well placed again in this grade. He's not afraid to sit parked and he toughed out a good fourth last Tuesday. Each way all day.
CARSE O FERN TOM was only beaten two lengths by Rake March 16. Should settle handy enough.
ADIEU FLIRT is racing panels below her real class. Checked last week when in peak hour traffic. Went around in the group and listed mares races at Auckland over Christmas. At her best she would smash these and from barrier one she is a chance of winning tonight.
HAWTHORNDEN HUNK is big on ability, small on smarts. Hasn't raced since July 2019 and had no trials. Will improve with the run but he's under rated.
NEEDAMARGARITA won her maiden by seven lengths two weeks ago. This is harder but she is having a pipe opener for the maiden series final on Thursday.

Race 8 7.09pm

1 Superstar Legend
6 Nerano
4 Panspacificjet
12 Zircon Lass

SUPERSTAR LEGEND is well and truly overdue a win. Four seconds in a row and five starts on this track for five placings. From barrier one the win should come tonight.
NERANO is green but he has an element of class. You can't fault his southern form. Second to Peraki Seelster at Blenheim in January was in an infinitely stronger race than this. He won his maiden here in great fashion last year.
PANSPACIFICJET has been plagued by average draws and no luck in his races. Way better than his record suggests and from barrier three with Sailesh Abernethy aboard he will be driven more positively tonight. Each way.
ZIRCON LASS was a six length maiden winner here last week. The twelve draw hurts but she gets back and runs home in her races anyway. There could be good pace on here and when she won last week she beat a race winner in Emmi Rose that day.
TICKING OVER made an uncharacteristic error last week. Hardly ever draws low so barrier eleven won't hinder. Could get over the top of them.
BOILOVER returns to Manawatu tonight after being beaten up in the South Island. The course record is handy and must be respected in this grade.
If Superstar Legend leads or trails DOCTOR LOVE will cover no extra and can place too.

Best Bet: Race 1 (11) Kristofferson
Each Way Value: Race 5 (3) Brookies Jaffa
