Jason Teaz's tips for Manawatu

Form analyst Jason Teaz takes a detailed look at today's meeting at Manawatu.

Race 1 - 4.33pm

1 Get On The Sauce
3 Abadabado
5 Thank You
7 Gazza Galleon

GET ON THE SAUCE was first up after a three month break between races with no trials last Tuesday. Has a 30m head start on the race winners and now he has had a run under his belt that is telling.
ABADABADOO has joined Michael House after losing all form. She's a better mare than that and this is a quality of race infinitely weaker than she's accustomed. Big each way.
THANK YOU still has the odd chink in his armour. Galloped a lap out February 23 and mounted a big recovery to get third. If he behaves he's a threat.
GAZZA GALLEON lost a leg between February 23 and March 16. Galloped twice and struggled. Moves forward to only be 50m behind but that's still a massive handicap.
HAKA PRIDE showed her true worth last week. The work in the Poutama stable seems to be working for her. 30m is a stiff handicap when you have only just started behaving off the front.

Race 2 - 4.57pm

8 Mr Perfect
7 Zip Code
2 It's A Laugh
1 Wriggles Rufus

MR PERFECT starts a strong team for the Telfers today. No star but drops out of a strong Auckland maiden after adequate trial form. Drawn to get a run close to the place and should be winning this.
ZIP CODE is a race winner against maidens. Enjoyed these conditions with two seconds in February. Had excuses last week in stronger company. Draws the outside but must play a part.
IT'S A LAUGH hasn't fired in the north even though he did place last week it was a weak effort. Never far away but not racing like he can win this.
WRIGGLES RUFUS grew a leg first up for Andre Poutama but has just been fair since. Seems to possess enough gate speed to use the one draw and on that becomes a top four chance.
THE SPORTSMAN hasn't shown anything yet but has to be respected being a Telfer runner here.

Race 3 - 5.22pm

2 Zircon Lass
9 Somedreamsomewhere
7 Emmi Rose
3 Secret Dream

ZIRCON LASS has cost herself in all three runs in the Manawatu. Barrier two will mean nothing if she misbehaves but the motor is big enough to win this. Made up heaps again last Tuesday.
SOMEDREAMSOMEWHERE had hardly been beaten trial day then underperformed hugely March 11 at Cambridge. Draw won't worry and this field must bring a result for her.
EMMI ROSE has won a race and takes on maidens. Cops the outside draw but she likes to go forward so anywhere front line works. That win was in 2019 though.
SECRET DREAM is beautifully bred but is on her last chance saloon trip north today with the House gypsy bus. Placed third in a trial in good time at Rangiora last Tuesday. Can win.
TINTORETTO has been sent south to Andre Poutama. Hasn't shown a lot but a change of scenery could wake her up.
BIG SKEWY has the aid of barrier one and went OK for fourth first up here last week.

Race 4 - 5.46pm

4 Superstar Legend
1 Peter Forsberg
9 Mahia
2 Forwardy

SUPERSTAR LEGEND finished second to Smokin Annie last Tuesday as a short priced favorite, that meant four starts here for four seconds. Overdue much..
PETER FORSBERG has won by a big margin at Manawatu from this draw in this class before. Should lead early and even though his last two runs were in amateur company, they were in Auckland.
MAHIA surprisingly has found one or two better each time in the CD. Still very consistent and follows out quick beginners. A must for first fours.
FORWARDY gets a much improved draw for this. A very difficult horse who fought Andre Poutama throughout from his bad draw last week. Didn't pace well but has now been in Palmerston North for an extra week so should go better today.
BUDVAR EYRE was a black book effort last Tuesday. Did receive a good run prior to being held up and draw is rough.

Race 5 - 6.09pm

3 Sir Brigadoon
1 Jungle Gem
9 Smokin Annie
10 Ticking Over

SIR BRIGADOON still looks green. He should still have too much speed for these. Broke his maiden here but he was surprisingly beaten next time here. However he didn't back up on that occasion.
JUNGLE GEM drops back from the main race to this and draws gate one. Traffic problems in the last two but she controls her destiny tonight. The smoky.
SMOKIN ANNIE got the money last Tuesday beating an in form Superstar Legend after being four wide turning for home. This is no step up.
TICKING OVER just whacks away for minor prizes. Draws badly a lot, but seemingly can't use good draws anyway. Frustratingly overdue a win.
RAKE is impossible to follow and got another win last week. Got a free win so just needs to overcome the outside of the gate to win again.
ADIEU FLIRT went around in group and listed mares races since Christmas. This a drop back but is she racing well enough to take advantage of the easier assignment.

Race 6 - 6.36pm

6 Superbass
3 Ace Strike
7 American Me
5 Dixie Reign

SUPERBASS has been battling since returning to NZ. Those races were in Auckland though. Did trial much better last Friday at Pukekohe. Showed a quick bit of dash to nearly roll American Dealer and Mimi E Coco. Massive form for this. Should win.
ACE STRIKE has big gate speed and used that to win here in December albeit in weaker company. Third in a 56 last half in a useful field from the stand at Cambridge March 11.
AMERICAN ME is racing lengths below his best right now. He may be feeling the effects of a big few months. With the PBD conditions he again has to rough it. A place hope again today.
DIXIE REIGN had her chance March 11 at Cambridge. Got a charmed 1x1 run but couldn't capitalise. Treks here for the first time and those colours will scare many at Manawatu.
THE KAPITI EXPRESS is a much better horse when in front rather than sitting in behind. Expect him to use barrier one and stay on the pace tonight.

Best Bet: Race 2 (8) Mr Perfect
Each Way Value: Race 5 (1) Jungle Gem
