IRT Harness Jewels Update : May 27

Cambridge Raceway is now in the final stages of preparing for its biggest event of the year, the IRT Harness Jewels on Sunday June 6.

“It’s happening, “ says Cambridge Raceway Chief Executive Dave Branch.

Work on the G.H. Mumm and the Speights Summit Ultra Sports Bar marquees will start on Sunday, and be completed by the middle of next week.

The Mumm marquee, at $320 per person, was sold out weeks ago, and there are just a few tickets left for the Sports Bar.

Ticket sales generally are tracking well, with a target of a total 5000 on course for the day.

In the build-up to race day a “Breakfast With the Stars workouts” will be held at Cambridge this Saturday, from 10am. It’s a chance to grab some food and a coffee and watch Jewels contenders have a hit out on the newly resurfaced Cambridge track.

There will be also be two major preview shows on next week. The Box Seat IRT Harness Jewels show will be broadcast on TAB Trackside 1 at 9pm next Monday (it will also be available on the HRNZ website) and the TAB Trackside IRT Harness Jewels preview show will be on Trackside 1 at 10 am on Wednesday June 2.

The Cambridge Jockey Club is also doing its bit to promote the day, with one jockey per race wearing Harness Jewels silks, at their second ever meeting on the new synthetic track next Thursday.

“We have a great relationship with the Jockey Club and the fact they have jumped onboard is awesome,” says Branch.
