IRT Harness Jewels Update : June 1
Cambridge Raceway Chief Executive Dave Branch is hoping for the best, but confident his team can cope with any weather conditions at Sunday’s IRT Harness Jewels.
The forecast is changing all the time but after seeing what’s happened in Canterbury over the past few days Branch has his fingers crossed.
“Today is a beautiful day up here – if you had that on Sunday we’d be set, but there is a forecast for some rain.”
But in any eventuality Branch thinks race-goers will be ok.
“We have plenty of cover and heating and there’s a marquee for the general public.”
Tomorrow is another big day in the preparation for Cambridge’s biggest race day of the year.
“The floors go down on our marquees, and we have furniture deliveries and everything we need for the day, logistically it’s huge.”
The Cambridge Jockey Club will also have a Harness Jewels component to its race day tomorrow on its new synthetic track.
One jockey in each race will wear yellow silks like those worn by the Harness Jewels leaders in each of the nine categories.
“It’s a buzz to get them get behind this.”
Branch says the excitement will only build in the town, the IRT Harness Jewels now just six days away.
