Interrorgator secures spot in $40,000 Canterbury Plains Final
By Mike Love
Trainers Peter and Mitchell Robertson have made a late charge into the $40,000 Canterbury Plains Final at Addington this Friday night after their pacer Interrorgator took out the final heat of the series at Ashburton on Sunday.
“It's a great stake. These sorts of horses don’t often get the opportunity to race for this sort of money, so it’s good to have a grand final for these types of horses,” so co-trainer Mitch Robertson.
Interrorgator, with Tim Williams, who will also drive the five-year-old Terror To Love gelding in the final, overcame a tricky second line draw on Sunday to win the final heat and secure their spot in Friday’s final.
“Tim got going at the right time. He said a few of them seemed off the bit a wee way from home so made his move at the right time. He was really happy with him and felt as good as he’s ever felt. Though it wasn’t hugely convincing, he felt like he had a bit left in the tank which is good going into Friday," says Robertson.
“He’s come through that pretty good. No complaints with him.”
The full field of 14 is very even, with Hugo and Jukebox Gypsy joint $4 favourites.
Despite his heat win, Interrorgator, who has drawn well at three, is at $27.
“The distance probably isn’t ideal for him, that's one factor I worry about slightly. But he has a great draw to get a good run. I expect him to beat more than beat him home," says Robertson.
Radioactive Jaffa has won twice at the distance, and with the in-form Ricky May in the sulky, looks to be a strong chance despite drawing outside of the front line. He's at $5.50 with Lasa at $5.
The Robertsons warmed up for tomorrow's big final with victory in last night's Paul Wilkins Turning 70 Mobile Pace at Addington.
Driven by Mia Holbrough, Heaven recorded his seventh career win in 92 starts.
It was the Robertsons' fifth training success this year.
