Early nominations for Derby and Oaks

A total of 30 of the country’s best three-year-olds have been nominated for Auckland’s Group One double-header next month.

The early nominations have just been released for both the $200,000 Woodlands Stud Northern Derby and the $125,000 Pascoes the Jewellers Northern Oaks. Both will be held at Alexandra Park on March 5.

Last season Amazing Dream won the Oaks on February 28, only to win the Derby a week later. In doing so she was the first filly to take it out since Ripper’s Delight in 1975.

This year both races will be held on a night when there will be a third Group One race, the Breckon Farms Young Guns Cardigan Bay Stakes, the Group 2 Crombie Lockwood Bloodstock Young Guns Delightful Lady Classic as well as other group and listed features.
