10 years on from Monkey King’s Double Double
In the nearly fifty year history of the Canterbury Classic, that will held at Addington on Friday night, only four horses have won it two years running.
Those to go back-to-back have been Lazarus (2016-17), Monkey King (2009-2010) , Bonnie’s Chance (1982-83) and Elmer Gantry (1989-90).
Monkey King won his second Canterbury Classic ten years ago before going on to win his second New Zealand Cup so we paid a visit to Dancingonmoonlight farm in North Canterbury and talked to Sara Famularo about how the horse they call “Sam” is enjoying retirement.
