Teal and White Double at Oamaru

Two excellent drives bagged money for harness racing’s Team Teal campaign while also landing Ashburton trainers Brent and Tim White a double at Oamaru yesterday.

The White stable colours were not needed when Team Teal ambassadors Kerryn Tomlinson and Kimberly Butt drove Randel Huston P and My Friend Louie to win in their ambassador silks.

Tim White was full of praise for Butt after she picked a perfect path for My Friend Louie to take out race 3.

The drive came after White gave Butt a bit of pre-race cheek about his sponsoring of the reinswoman in the Team Teal campaign through his business, Foothills Shearing.

“I said to Kim you haven’t cost me much so far, so you better get a winner today,” White quipped.

“It was a great drive because the horse obviously wanted to come out of the gate.”

“He is one of those ones that its better you don’t argue with him because he gets more worked up.”

“Kim was able to get into a possie and give the horse enough of a breather before they started coming from the back, it was a good win.”

My Friend Louie is raced by fellow Ashburton trainer Wendy Stevenson alongside Peter Forrest.

The pair look to have a promising type on their hands.

“He doesn’t know 100% what he is doing yet, he has still go plenty to learn but he has got a decent motor there,” White said.

More funds were raised for Team Teal when Kerryn Tomlinson guided Randel Houston P to victory in race 4.

In doing so, the trotter continued his theme from the White stable.

“We worked out the other day that he has run in the top four every time he has trotted the trip,” White said.

“Once he got away he wanted to bobble for a few stride but Kerryn held him together and let him get into his rhythm.”

With two seconds in his prior three starts at Addington, the White barn hope the big striding trotter can break through at Canterbury’s headquarters soon.

“The best part is this win is penalty-free so he can  slide back into the same grade at Addington.”

“Hopefully he can win one, but he has been doing a good job and picking up some good money with his placings.”

Randel Houston P is raced by prominent greyhound racing owners Opawa Racing Ltd.

The White stable’s southern raid this week won’t end with yesterday’s Oamaru meeting.

Their multiple country cup winning pacer Got You Covered will contest the Northern Southland Autumn Cup at Ascot Park on Saturday.
