Tara's terrific draw

By Adam Hamilton

TIGER Tara looms as the biggest threat to favourite Chicago Bull after the barrier draw for the $200,000 Group 1 Victoria Cup (2240m).

It’s a dream scenario for Kiwi officials with both stars headed across the ditch for the NZ Cup after Saturday night’s feature.

Tiger Tara signalled a return to his best form with a slashing second to stablemate Majordan at Menangle last Saturday night and has drawn perfectly in gate two in the Victoria Cup.

Chicago Bull also fared well in three, but won’t have the zip to find the front which makes the race a genuine contest.

Tiger Tara has the right draw, but it’s far from a given he will be able to hold the lead with slick beginners like Im The Boss (four) and, even more so, Mach Doro (five) on his outside.

The Aussie TAB re-opened Chicago Bull $2.20 favourite after he draw with Tiger Tara $4.80 second elect then Shadow Sax ($6.50, gate nine) and Gotta Go Ya Hu ($7.50, gate one).

In driving news, young gun Kima Frenning opted to partner the emerging Wrappers Delight (gate seven, $17) over her favourite Im The Boss (gate four, $31).

Team Tritton has three runners and the drivers will be: Gotta Go Ya Hu (Lachie Manzelmann), Franco Nelson (Lauren Tritton) and My Alpha Rock (Josh Aiken).

On the same card, two of Australia’s top trotters, Tornado Valley and Kyvalley Road, continue their warm-up for probably NZ Cup Week raids.

The star pair clash in the $50,000 Group 1 Bill Collins Trotters’ Mile with Tornado Valley in gate three and Kyvalley Blur off the back row (gate 10). The other key player in the race is Maori Law from gate four.
