Soho's comeback scare

By Adam Hamilton

HEARTS dropped when Aussie star Soho Tribeca dropped-out sharply in his return racing at Melton last night.

The pacer, regarded by most as Australia’s best before breaking a leg almost a year ago, was sent out a $1.50 but tired badly after finding the lead midrace and was virtually eased out of the event by trainer-driver Mick Stanley.

 Everyone feared the worst.

But Stanley assured fans Soho Tribeca’s legs were “absolutely fine” this morning (Sunday).

“He didn’t eat last night and his recovery from the race was really poor,” he added. “I would say it’s a lung infection or some sort of viral infection, but we’ll get some blood tests done to find out more.”

Hopes were high for a winning return with Soho Tribeca working a trialling strongly with stablemate Rackemup Tigerpie, who resumed from a shorter spell with a powerhouse Melton win eight days ago.

The Italian Cup won in strong fashion by Gary Quinlan’s emerging pacer Professor Tom with Chris Alford aboard.
