Marshal on target for Mile

A FRESHENED-UP My Field Marshal looks right on target for his Miracle Mile title defence.

Trainer Tim Butt opted for a freshen-up after the star pacer’s successful WA raid finished with a luckless fourth in the Group 1 WA Pacing Cup on January 18.

It was back to business at Menangle yesterday where My Field Marshal blew away a handy field to win a mile trial by 11.5m in 1min53sec. He dashed home in 53.9 and 26.4sec with Anthony Butt nursing him to the wire.

“We’re really happy with how he’s been since coming home and confident he’s where he needs to be,” Butt said.

My Field Marshal heads to one of the two Miracle Mile qualifiers at Menangle on Saturday week.

As sharp as My Field Marshal looked at the trials, it was Team Tritton’s Victoria Derby winner Muscle Factory who turned even more heads in a solo workout.

“We held him back and worked him along over 2300m after the race meeting,” Shane Tritton said. “He couldn’t have gone better.”

Muscle Factory blazed a 1min52.6sec mile rate for 2300m and finished-off in 53.2 and 26.6sec.

The mile rate unofficially equalled Clancy’s Cobwatch’s 2300m track record.

Perhaps a better comparison is Smolda’s 1min52.7sec track record for Menangle’s 2400m trip.

Muscle Factory heads to a NSW Derby heat on Saturday week. He’s $3.20 prepost Derby favourite with the All Stars’ Im Anothermasterpiece in latest markets.
