Kyle Cameron rewarded with triple success
By Mike Love
Just weeks ago Kyle Cameron reckoned he was due some luck, after finding wins pretty elusive in 2024.
That all changed over the weekend with the trainer-driver grabbing triple success with Wuhan, King Of Diamonds and Style Council all saluting the judge at Addington Raceway.
“It’s good to get a turn! It was really nice to cap off all the recent placings to actually get a win with all of them!” said Cameron, who also drove all three runners to victory.
Wuhan was successful on Friday night at Addington in the IRT. Your Horse. Our Passion Mobile Pace.
“He’s always shown a lot of gate speed but we’ve never been able to use it with all the bad draws we’ve had. So drawn four on Friday we were able to show it and get handy.”
Wuhan lead then trailed behind one of the favourites I’ll Be Back. Cameron was able to use the passing lane to boot through and win by a neck from Captain Christian.
“Hopefully he can carry on with it. We will bring him back up after he has a couple of weeks off and race him in the spring.”
Brett’s Mate also placed at Addington, finishing third behind Master Class in the TK Plastering Mobile Trot.
Cameron was then successful on Sunday at the same venue firstly with King Of Diamonds in the LSG Sky Chefs trot.
“I didn’t think I would be able to turn him around much when I got him. But just lately he seems to have really turned the corner.”
King Of Diamonds did not make life easy at the start by being tardy away and settling five back on the markers. Cameron was able to extricate off the fence around the 900m. From there Cameron and King Of Diamonds were too big and powerful, holding off the field to win by a neck from Stella Bay.
“He always had ability but would just pull up in his races. But now he’s just wanting to do it.”
The very next race Style Council and Cameron lined up in the Good Home Ferrymead Pace from the 2000m stand.
Beginning well but being caught wide, Cameron opted to restrain the A Rocknroll Dance gelding toward the rear of the field. Peeling from around the 450m to come four wide, Style Council swooped on past his rivals to win comfortably by a neck.
“He’d been racing Friday nights so it was drop back in class if anything. So when I sent him from the 450m he was just too good for them.”
“He’s a lovely horse to own. He’s just so genuine.”
Cameron trains a team of 15 from his Fernside base.
“I’ve got a couple of young ones coming through that I don’t mind. So hopefully they’ll step up and do the job.”
