Club News 6 November

The border rivalry is back! The Downbytheseaside Drivers Challenge takes place at Ascot Park Raceway in Invercargill this Thursday (7 November).

Supported by Woodlands Stud the drivers challenge has taken on many formats over the years and now, for the third year running, this year’s event will again see teams of six from North and South of the Waitaki lock horns.

The South of the Waitaki Team is the defending champion while Nathan Williamson took the individual title last year and this year the “home” team returns with a strong line up featuring Nathan, Matty and Brad Williamson, Brent Barclay, Craig Ferguson and Kirstin Barclay. Travelling south to try and wrest back the title they won in 2017 is the North Of The Waitaki Team of Blair Orange,

Ricky May, John Morrison, Sam Ottley, Sheree Tomlinson and former Southlander Mark Hurrell.

Racing is scheduled to commence at 3.05pm and included in the eight races programmed are four point scoring heats for the Downbytheseaside Drivers Challenge. Racing continues until the last race at 6.26pm so there is a great opportunity to stop in and catch some action even after work.

Points will be allocated as follows for each heat – 1st 10, 2nd 7, 3rd 5, 4th 3, 5th 1 and points scored will go to both the individual tally in the challenge and the teams total.

Admission to the course will be free. One punter will take home a meal voucher from Level One Restaurant & Bar in Invercargill when a draw of all losing on course tote tickets is made after Race 6 while also after race 6 all children on course receive a free bag of lollies.
