11 Midnight Assassin: Big maiden win at Methven after some very encouraging performances. Won like a horse who wouldn’t struggle with the rise up in grade. Chance again.
4 Desert Wings: Stablemate of the #11 and doesn’t lack for ability either. Just needs a clean beginning and from there he could be very dangerous late with good high speed.
2 Zeddie Marit: Trotted very nicely last time out to finish sixth, manners are getting better but off the unruly here. One might not be the best draw, but Orange will work his magic.
16 Sun Swinger: Progressive type judging by five very encouraging runs to open up the career. Looks a good each way hope in this big field.
6 Marcoola: Out of sort type of performance at Addington last week. Not much went right for him. Will be better for that run though and should take all sorts of beating here today.
5 Habibi Inta: Class customer resuming from the stable of Paul Nairn. Will be ready to rock and roll and can give them a bit of a fright in a fresh state.
3 Destiny Jones: She’s racing really well at the moment, last two runs in good company have been very good. Shouldn’t be too for away here today.
2 Valloria: Got a bit too tough late last week, but better than that. Smaller field here should suit the high speed.
7 Justasec: Big Jim debutant who is yet to be beaten in public. From a strike-rate stable and will take all sorts of stopping here on debut.
2 Khal Drogo: Down from the Manawatu for this and albeit a harder field he’s still a really good chance today from a good draw, especially if he finds the front early.
10 Just Michael: Desperately unlucky at Methven last time out following strong effort for second at start prior. Needs luck here but good enough to run them down.
5 Glenthorne: Can’t really fault the form line, but do question some of the opposition. Fit though and in good form so a leading contender.
6 Gran Chico: Stepped up again with a bold display at Addington last week. Headed in the right direction and will give these plenty to think about.
1 Zinny Mach: Picked up ground really strongly last time out and hit the line well. Good draw here and good enough to give this a bit of a crack.
3 Heisenberg: John Dunn chooses him over Franco Nevin which we should take a lead from. Loves to run and small field gives him a chance.
5 Chiller Bay: Speed horse who found it a bit too tough in the Derby. Small field here will suit though and could run them down late.
3 Donegal Mary Francis: Combination of things have kept her from winning recently. Good draw and a senior driver might turn things around from the handy draw.
16 Good On Ya Kiwi: Has the ability but this draw makes things really difficult. Right run and it can win, no doubt about that.
4 Rock n Joy: Run down at Addington on Friday afternoon but big here last weekend. Busy, but can play a dividend in this line up.
12 Get It On: Made up a stack of a ground fresh up at Methven. Has a bit of upside to him and no surprise to see him go close here.
11 Bubbled Up: All Stars filly who will relish getting away from some really strong company. Should be able to make this race her own, even from the second line.
10 Kotare Yolande: More upside than most in this race, but will need some luck from the inside of the second row. Dangerous if she sees clear air.
13 Mossdale Art: Been mixing it with some of the best fillies recently. This is a drop in grade and she will relish it. High speed if she’s close enough turning in.
8 Mad Lu Li: Another honest effort at Methven for third. Goes really nicely but just needs things to pan out for her.
8 The Fixer: Brave run in the Easter Cup and might try and work his rivals into the dirt today which usually gets the best out of him. Class act and hard to beat.
6 Chase Auckland: The young pretender attempting to step up and knock some of his high-class stablemates off their perch. Good chance as well.
5 A G’s White Socks: Boomed home in the Easter Cup to just come up short. Will relish a hot speed here and a quiet trip just off the speed. Dangerous with a cold shot.
4 Hail Christian: Australia served him well. He hit the line in the Easter Cup strongly and will enjoy this style of race today. Good place chance at least.
11 Time For Diamonds: Off the 20m handicap here, but smaller field than last time and the usual good beginning will see her in the right space to give this a good shake.
4 Izmok: Building towards a victory nicely with some strong recent efforts. Manners usually good so won’t be far away.
3 Mr Fahrenheit: Ticking along nicely with two wins in last two efforts. Confidence back? Can win this and make it three in a row.
13 Renezmae: Disappointing fresh up but she’ll improve on that. No certain chance, but good enough to play a role if on the top of her game.
9 Smokin By: Just came up short behind a smart one last week. Really nice pacer headed for better things and should win here.
11 Mikey Maguire: Rugged pacer who won’t mind having to put them to the sword here if required. Can outstay most.
7 Sociable: She showed she’s back on track with a bold third last week. Classy mare at her best and working towards a winning turn for sure.
4 Machsgain: In great form and running bold races at the moment. Good chance off the front tape.
14 Bringitonhome: Big win last week, finally showing what he’s capable of. Good enough to go again even from the outside of the second line.
1 Ohoka Achilles: Came from nowhere to win last week. Progressive pacer who comes up with the great draw here and he should give it another good crack.
9 Gore Bay: Been whacking away in some really strong Country Cup races recently. Wide draw but should enjoy the drop in grade for today’s assignment.
11 Born To Run: Should strip fitter for the fresh up run. Handy horse when right and might be the knockout chance here.
BEST: 9 Smokin By (Race 9)
NEXT: 6 Marcoola (Race 2)
VALUE: 14 Bringitonhome (Race 10)
