2 Liberal Arden: Drops into a very winnable race after some strong recent efforts in decent fields, much better than this. Drawn well and should have a major say in this event.
4 Runcle: Only a brave soul would leave out a horse driven by a Wigg sister in an amateur race at Cambridge. This one has performed very well in similar races in the past.
1 Highview Justice: Loves to be on the speed and drawn up perfectly to do exactly that here. Should give them all something to think about.
5 Crackared: Last start was in a very strong race where she was far from disgraced. This is a drop back and as with Runcle, there’s a Wigg sister in the bike.
6 Arty Pharty: Consistent performer in this grade for a long time and has been knocking on the door of a maiden success. Won’t get many better chances than this to break the maiden status.
3 Miss Shuga: Had shown a bit in workouts and trials before stepping out at Auckland where not much went right. Take the lead from the trials and workouts. Good shot here.
1 Karolyi: Good run last time out to finish second and comes up with the ace draw here. Should punch out and find a good position and give it a good shake.
7 Au Revoir: Smart trial victory recently is a good pointer to this and might be a bit better on the all weather too. Not the worst chance.
5 Peter Forsberg: More capable than some of the recent efforts would probably suggest. Last start was at Auckland so should find this a bit easier than the normal challenges.
2 Whitehaven Beach: Smart on speed runner who has performed well here in the past. Loves to lead and make them chase and perfect opportunity here.
9 Bugalugs: Hitting the line strongly last time out at Auckland. Performs well here and won’t be too far away again from the inside of the second line.
6 Vanhalem: Ticking along nicely with some strong recent efforts this isn’t a deep field including placings in last two starts. Big chance here.
8 Anna Kate: Last start third was in a black type race, so this is going to be a whole heap easier. Manners are generally pretty good. Won’t be far away from the action.
7 Such Fun: Got it all together on the second day at Manawatu and delivered in style. More than capable of making a mark here too.
12 Need Luck: Best is very good, but sometimes a little ordinary. Dangerous if close enough to them when turning for home, but funnily enough needs that luck.
1 My Royal Roxy: Better for the fresh up run last time out and generally a good beginner so could pounce out and give them plenty to chase.
8 Mustang Sally: No superstar and probably underwhelmed a bit last campaign. Perhaps a bit better and stronger this time in judging by strong recent effort in recent workout.
1 E Cat: Going near enough and comes up with the ace draw here so shouldn’t be too far away from the action with a run on the markers.
9 Mhai Uptown Girl: Glimpse of the ability with a good third last time out. Handy enough prior to that too. Nice run in transit on offer here and a good hope.
7 My Boy Boo: Back to pacing last time and wasn’t too far away. Not a deep field so expecting a bold display here.
7 Prime Silver: Has taken on some pretty smart fields in recent months, much stronger than this. A prime opportunity to get back into the winners’ circle.
2 Go Toddy: Showed a bit of promise with a strong win in North Island debut, but too tough last time. Much better suited here and expecting a return to form.
1 T C Business: New barn after a win last time out. Honest toiler who might just get the perfect trip from here and from there might not be to far away from them.
9 American Me: Only a baby but showing plenty of encouraging signs. Has good high speed at the end of the races and likely to be saved up for the one run at them here.
3 Mockingjay: Out of a very strong assignment last time out and dangerous if allowed to bowl along and set her own terms. Can go close here.
4 Starry Star: Talented customer who will relish tonight’s drop in grade. Can punch out and make the presence felt and give it a big crack.
7 Major Blink: Goes near enough and has shown enough ability in the short career to be a very serious contender and potentially the knockout chance in this line up.
5 Gold Class: Got the job done on debut and did it nicely. Up in grade so always a risk but enough in the debut win to suggest there’s plenty to work with.
8 Ruebe Star: Talented pacer who hasn’t been far away in the last couple. Wide draw here but good enough to overcome it and go very close to success.
7 Patanjali: In great nick with some strong performances in recent efforts. Might cut the ribbons early and look to get closer. The best each way option.
1 About Turn: On speed runner who is generally a consistent performer. Perfect draw and should be right in amongst the action throughout this.
2 Racketeers Boy: Two strong fourth in last two starts. Good draw and a positive driver in the bike, he’s going to be in the middle of the action throughout.
7 Fira: Here’s the opportunity she’s been waiting for. Three fourths in last three starts and meets a field that she should be able to get a hold on. Big winning hope.
2 Flying Taine: Some good runs mixed in amongst things in recent efforts. Handy draw here and just needs to get away on even terms with them and from there will be contender.
8 Cowboy Castleton: Fish out of water up against some race winners, but there’s a big motor there. Cross everything and hope for the best and with manners a win is no surprise.
11 Takenoprisoners: Up from the Williamson stable in the South. Should be fit and does have a motor. A winning chance.
BEST: 7 Fira (Race 9)
NEXT: 7 Prime Silver (Race 6)
VALUE: 5 Peter Forsberg (Race 3)
