3 Chain Reaction: A whole lot better than the formline might actually suggest. Possesses a strong finishing burst when the right circumstances unfold and the long Nelson straight might just work right into his favour today at a nice price.
6 Jay Tee Tyron: Well bred debutant who heads here with the power of the Dunn stable behind him. Qualified nicely enough and shouldn’t be too far away on debut.
7 Jimmy Cannon: Trainer is certainly kicking a few goals this summer and this one has a big motor but is often his own worst enemy. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ran a huge race here.
4 Adjudicator: Joins the Bruce Negus barn. Has always looked capable and the staying nature of the Nelson track should suit him.
3 Zsa Zara: Knocking on the door and must be rewarded with a victory this weekend for the honest toils in recent weeks. In here beautifully and hard to beat.
1 Overzealous: Finally comes up with a good draw after three very good runs on the West Coast. Manners seem really good so expecting a bold display today.
4 You Really Got Me: Dunn trained trotter with a big motor. Went some huge races as a 2YO and would only need to trot to be a leading contender here.
2 Halfway There: Last start was at Roxburgh so better than halfway there you could say. Can trot a bit too and stable goes well on this circuit. Expect a good run.
1 Glenledi Bandit: Trial placings behind both Chiller Bay and Arma Indie look superb now. Winner on debut from the ace draw? It almost looks a formality.
2 Midas Touch: First start after some solid workouts and trials to prepare. Will likely hold up a forward position and from there be a player in what is not a deep field.
4 Ruby Tues Bay: Nice debut effort in a good field at Ashburton. Better for it and should go close to picking one up on the two days.
6 Awesome Official: Built in confidence on the Coast circuit and it could be expected to see him run a very strong race here today.
11 Sioux Princess: No dice at Timaru after getting well back. Same on offer here too probably but longer staight might entice a more spirited finishing burst. Certainly good enough to win it.
10 Monaro Maro: No problems on second day at Westport and clearly one with a motor. Steps up in grade and will need to bring the manners but a winning prospect all the same.
2 Foreigner: Deserved maiden success after some strong recent efforts. Dangerous if allowed to bowl along in front as he likes and might just get that chance here.
5 Shpeedy: Money keeps comings but manners were awful on the Coast. Back to the grit here which might hold the answers and one you wouldn’t want to leave out.
10 God Only Knows: Inside of the second row draw but that might not work out to be the worst thing. Follows out a potential leader and with a quiet run up the markers a bold finish is on the cards.
1 The Jandel Machine: Former winner here in the past who comes up with the ace draw in a very even field. Has to be afforded a strong winning chance today based on recent efforts.
2 JJ’s Delight: Another who is in good nick at the moment with some strong West Coast efforts. Drawn well so on the speed and some hope in this line up.
11 All Nuts N Bolts: Couple of nice fourths in the last two starts. Pearce team always races well at Nelson and with Blair Orange in the bike there’s a good chance of that continuing here today.
8 Dadndave: Nice three-year-old who isn’t here for the experience. Has taken on fields far stronger than this and was very good winning last time out over a very nice type. Can make it two in a row.
10 Tuapeka Trick: Seems to race best when saved up for the one run at them and gets the chance today from the 10m handicap. Performed well against much better in the past.
7 Change Is Good: Escapes racing in some strong fields on the Coast circuit and goes down in grade. Can be the each way blow out in this race if things pan out.
1 He’s Fast And Furious: Turns in honest shifts every time he lines up and from the inside draw with a quiet run he can certainly be a factor in this field late in proceedings.
11 Scarlett Banner: Just get the feeling this trip might get things back on track for her after some average recent efforts. No doubting the ability. Just needs to trot.
10 Valloria: Very nice type resuming. Took on some of the better three-year-olds last season and wasn’t disgraced. Stable with have her ready.
9 Tokyo Joe: Another who made big strides last season. Building in fitness and can win one of this trip for sure.
4 Zsa Zoe: Manners are good and in this race that could be half the battle. Ford stable always races well up in this part of the country and you’d expect a bold display here.
5 Kotare Cullen: John Dunn’s choice of drive here is a big factor. Two good chances and he goes with this one. Big win last time out and showed really good stand start manners so 10m should be no problem.
3 Tyron Bettor’s Ella: No mean feat to wear down a mare like Tact Maggie, but did it nicely at Ashburton. Steps away clean and she’s a big chance.
1 Gimmefiveminutesmore: Progressive pacer who was much better on the second day at Westport. Could jump and run here and give them plenty to chase.
4 Jenora: Has a high turn of foot when saved for one run at the small nature of this field might play right into her hands late.
6 Feel The Money: High speed mare who has performed here very well in the past. Can sit on them and swoop or equally launch at them late. Holds a few aces up the sleeve and hard to beat here.
1 Huey Lewis: Going really well at the moment and gets the ace draw to use here which might be an advantage over the stablemate. Expect a big run.
5 Barkley: Big maiden win followed by gallop when up in grade. Stick with the ship though as he’s going to win a few races.
2 Mini Mine Yet: Did some work last time but kept fighting late. Handling the challenges and a good place chance again in this line up.
BEST: 1 Glenledi Bandit (Race 3)
NEXT: 8 Dadndave (Race 6)
VALUE: 3 Chain Reaction (Race 1)
