The Shark - Best at Wairio on Saturday

For full information, previews, videos, podcasts head to The Punters Lounge

Race 1

4 Just Wondering: Two fourths to open the career, both up in the Canterbury region. Doesn’t seem to mind having to do a bit of work in races either so should appreciate the small nature of this assignment today.

7 Flaming Jim: Has done just enough in his short career to keep you interested and today’s assignment against a field which lacks depth gives him a good chance of success.

1 Reflectionsofmylife: Found trouble last time out. Canterbury visitor so always that respect level for and operates from a good draw.

6 Stingray Tara: Tiger Tara’s brother - but perhaps not quite as exciting as him just yet. Workouts and trials have been moderate.

Selections: 4-7-1-6

Race 2

2 Rockahula Joe: Better for the fresh up run which came in much stronger company than this and drawn really well for today’s assignment so should be going pretty close to winning.

6 Poldark: Has gone better races in fields a lot stronger than this in his career but not much has gone right in last few appearances. Here’s a good opportunity to bounce back.

5 Thisexcusebetterbeit: No world beater, but one who will win a maiden race one day. Should give a good account in today’s assignment too.

7 Tad Lincoln: Zinny Mach for should stack up going forward and hasn’t been too far away in all runs this time round so shouldn’t be far away here.

Selections: 2-6-5-7

Race 3

7 Barrett: Mark Jones runner down here to grab an elusive maiden win. Performances in Canterbury have been very good and he’s shouldn’t be too far away from the action today.

5 Folklore: Anything that’s beaten Fear Cruisin in a trial gets our attention. Jonny Cox trained pacer who can clearly run a bit so expecting a bold debut effort today.

11 Square Dealer: Consistent performer who always goes good races. You’d expect some more of the same here even from the worst draw in the field.

10 Iknow: John Hay brings this one south and it is no forlorn hope either. Good fourth last time out and might sneak under the radar a bit.

Selections: 7-5-11-10

Race 4

2 First Son: Been waiting for a good draw for this horse, loves a handy draw and if on the speed will give a really strong account of himself at nice odds today.

1 I’m Jimmy James: Galloped over the crossing at The Mot - but not bad afterwards. This is his kind of race and a nice trip looks in store.

9 Triroyale Brigade: Ticking along nicely enough and a quiet run on the markers today looks in the offering so shouldn’t be too far away again.

4 Si Si Senor: Last start was at Addington where he led them up and tried to run them off their feet. This is easier, but not by that much. Need to respect the stable.

Selections: 2-1-9-4

Race 5

3 Michelle: Putting in some big strides late after an early gallop last time. Not a real strong field here, just a lot of honest performers so best behavior required if a winning turn is to come.

10 Zoned Scarlett: Big run last week after a string of mistakes in starts prior. This looks well within reach as long as he behaves again.

9 Delson: Hard not to be impressed by maiden win and has since performed really well in workouts and trials. In the hunt again.

5 Lynette The Vet: Nice trotter who will be better for the fresh up run last time out. Can jump and run here and give them plenty to think about.

Selections: 3-10-9-5

Race 6

6 Miss VC: The best of the beaten brigade behind Mossdale Art last week. That gets the attention straight away. Shouldn’t be far away from winning this.

2 Bettor’s Highlight: Bit of class about maiden win, especially seeing as it was against a few contenders here. Good draw and won’t be far away from them.

3 April Rose: Hit the line really well last time out, but they may cut the ribbons here and try and lead them throughout which might make her hard to catch.

7 Bunter’s Dream: Great run for second last week and continuing to build on some good form. Wide draw today, but off a hot speed can really run at them late.

Selections: 6-2-3-7

Race 7

11 Zinny Mach: Last week was no fluke, he’s just needed the confidence built up and should be there now. Can go on with it and win plenty more races.

3 Governor’s Bay: Will be so much better for the fresh up effort for fourth and from a handy draw today he should be right in the middle of this.

1 Raffy Roo: Nice run at odds last week. Drawn perfectly today and with any luck should be right in the middle of the action again.

7 B Mac C: Not a bad type but needs luck in races and if it doesn’t come, then he’s no hope. But with a quiet run then he shouldn’t be far away.

Selections: 11-3-1-7

Race 8

5 Smokin By: Very unlucky last week but good effort all the same. If he handles the experience and the standing start then he should be awfully hard to beat, even in such a good field.

2 Nearis Green: Stand start toff who will be two or three in front of his rivals before they even think about getting underway. That puts him in a good spot for this.

9 Machs Back: Under-rated pacer who should give a really strong account of himself in this line up today after some big efforts in recent weeks.

1 Shezacullengirl: Showed her true worth last week, but that was over a mile behind the mobile. Looking for some Mark Jones magic to get her away and then she’s right in it.

Selections: 5-2-9-1

Race 9

6 Beg Hall: In good nick with two big runs back from the spell, both up in Canterbury. Should enjoy today’s assignment and be pretty hard to beat.

4 Zoey’s Gift: Enigmatic type who is very hard to follow. Was going to be right there last week when she galloped. One for the brave.

9 King Cassidy: Good races behind sart types recently so this should seem a bit easier. Will have to make his own luck though.

11 Sundon’s Wish: Handicaps hurting him at the moment, but good enough to overcome it today and be a major player in this line up.

Selections: 6-4-9-11

Race 10

6 Bridesdale Robyn: Prepared to put a line through last week. She was so good at Addington on Show Day that if the same version of that shows up, she wins today. Simple as that.

3 Betstars Blue Jean: Forgotten how to run a bad race and from a good draw today he’ll be right in the middle of all the action again.

5 Gotta Be Downtown: Drops out of Shezacullengirl race last week and should find this a bit easier. Can get a slice.

4 Dachy: Looked to have them beat on the home turn last week, but succumbed to second. Good run all the same and a chance again today.

Selections: 6-3-5-4

BEST: 2 Rockahula Joe (Race 2)

NEXT:  6 Bridesdale Robyn (Race 10)

VALUE: 2 First Son (Race 4)
