Adam Hamilton looks through the Hunter Cup card

By Adam Hamilton

THE return of megastar Lazarus headlines a stellar Hunter Cup card at Melton’s Tabcorp Park tomorrow (Saturday) night.

ADAM HAMILTON dissects the key races:

R7 – HUNTER CUP

As great as LAZARUS (3) is, the $1.35 or so is simply too short given he’s coming off a minor setback and looks set to have sit parked in fast times. He’s obviously the one to beat, but ageing champ LENNYTHESHARK (8) should be the right run to test him from inside the back row and trailing out the likely leader, TIGER TARA (1). You also have to respect TIGER TARA (1). Humbled in the Inter Dom final when he led, but did lead and beat LAZARUS in a heat of that series. HEAVEN ROCKS (9) is a freakish talent and did everything right at Ballarat. If he takes confidence from that and puts it all together, he’s a definite threat. Defending champ BLING IT ON (2) has at least a place hope from good draw. SOHO TRIBECA (13) and SAN CARLO (11) have the talent, but awful draws. Still place hopes.

SUGGESTED BET: Something each-way LENNYTHESHARK (8) at $8/9.

R5 – DULLARD CUP

Two major hopes are the pair who quinella-ed the Great Southern Star last week, SPARKLING SUCCESS (10) and TEMPORALE (8). Going with SPARKLING SUCCESS (10) again after he sat parked and won so well last week. TEMPORALE (8) cost himself by ducking-in at a crucial stage last week. Tricky draw again, but class act and dangerous. HEY YO (2) keeps improving and has the draw to be a threat. Top run last week. GLENFERRIE BURN (4) is flying and can give cheek from ideal draw despite class rise. KYVALLEY BLUR (6) has nothing go right last week and previous NZ form extra strong.

SUGGESTED BET: SPARKLING SUCCESS (10) to win, but only if he gets to $2. Something small on GLENFERRIE BURN (4) each-way at $21 or better.

R6 - PURE STEEL

Should be a walk in the park for the gifted CRUZ BROMAC (10), who paced a stunning 1min50.6sec last mile to win first-up from long break last week. Wouldn’t have been out of place in the Hunter Cup. Only hasd to repeat last week to win easily again. IT IS BILLY (1), CODE BLACK (6) and MISTER WICKHAM (9) are the best place hopes.

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 10 to win from 1,6,9 for second and third.

R8 – 3YO FILLIES’ CLASSIC

Super keen on the exciting SOHO BURNING LOVE (9), who has looked awesome winning both runs this campaign. Be surprised if she doesn’t win again. PISTOL ABBEY (5) ran some top races last season is elite company, but is only second-tier in the Emma Stewart barn. Drawn well. The main threat. SHEZ DREAM BEACH (6), MY HARMONMY BLUE (3) and GOODTIME HEAVEN (10) the place hopes.

SUGGESTED BET: The odds have been crunched on SOHO BURNING LOVE (9) so take her in your multis.

SUMMARY

BEST BET: R8 n9 Soho Burning Love

BEST VALUE: R7 n8 Lennytheshark

BEST ROUGHIE: R6 n4 Glenferrie Burn
