Jack is back

Harness Jewels 3YO upset winner Jack’s Legend returns to racing after three months away in the Spring Cup (2200m stand) at Alexandra Park on Friday night.

The Barry Purdon-trained son of Bettor’s Delight beat race rival Maxim in a two-horse workout last week, clocking 56sec for his last 800m.

He starts off the front on Friday, with Maxim and in-form mare Better B Amazed off 20m.

Stratford double

Gore trainer Tony Stratford bagged two winners at Invercargill, with Macandrew Majic taking the More FM Mobile Pace by eight-and-a-half lengths at his first start for 11 months since fracturing a hind pastern.

“It was quite bad. He's got four or five screws in his leg and he was out for six months,’’ Stratford told Southland Harness Racing on Saturday.

“He had a good workout at Gore which he won in good time and we had a quiet run around at Winton. I was expecting a bold run.’’

Benio Ben continued his winning way when he took his second straight.

The time was a slick 2:41.8 (2200m mobile), with the last 800m in 57sec.

"He burnt twice in the first 600 metres and held them out easily.’’

The $12,000 Southland Nuggets final on October 7 is Benio Ben's next target and then Stratford will look at Show Day during NZ Cup week.
