Manawatu Stakes Increase for coming season

Manawatu Stakes Increase for coming season

The Manawatu Harness Racing Club has announced that stakes for the coming season will be $8,000 for all races on Tuesdays and $10,000 for all races on Thursdays.  Stake money will be paid to the first four place-getters, with 2% paid to runners fifth and further back.

Club President Dan Lynch said, “Increased funding from HRNZ has been critical in allowing the lift in stakes”. He commented that Manawatu Harness Racing recognises the costs in travel for those trainers supporting the club and while they looked at options for inducing trainers to bring horses to Manawatu, at the end of the day increasing stakes was the best way of rewarding those coming to race.

He said the club will carry out a review post-Christmas but are keen to maintain this level of stakes across the season.

Lynch indicated the Manawatu club is likely to show a small profit for the past season’s racing.
