Getting Started

Once you have decided that you want to be involved in harness racing ownership, one of the first things to do is find a licensed trainer. It is key to find a trainer you have confidence in, as you are trusting them to do the best for your bloodstock acquisition. You can find a trainer by talking to other owners, getting in contact with HRNZ, or Peter Cook who is Secretary of the New Zealand Harness Racing Trainer’s and Driver’s Association.

Once you have found a trainer it is recommended to use him/her to help you make you decisions such as; what aged horse to buy, your price bracket and the type of ownership you are interested in.
