Harness racing driver Nathan Williamson was seriously injured following an incident near the finish of a race at Alexandra Park on Friday night.
Williamson was driving Captains Mistress when he was unseated from his cart close to the winning post and fell onto the track. He received immediate medical attention on course before being transported to hospital, where he remains under care.
Nathan comes from a well-known harness racing family, with parents Phil and Bev Williamson and brothers Matthew and Brad all closely involved in the sport.
A post on the Nathan Williamson Racing Facebook page has thanked supporters for their messages, noting that a further update will be provided when available.
Harness Racing New Zealand continues to monitor the situation closely.
CEO Brad Steele said the sport’s thoughts are with Nathan, his wife Katie, their family, and all those affected.
