The Trials Report – Six of the Best
These horses have trialled pleasingly in recent weeks and this week (13/11/25) they head back to the racetrack.
Transonic (3g Bettor’s Delight – Supersonic Miss) Tr. S & A Telfer
Scratched from last week’s assignment when likely to be well supported. Hopefully all good to go today at Ashburton in Race 3 where he has drawn the second line but looks up to this field judging by his recent trial runs.
Certainly bred to be better than a maiden, he is the first live foal of a ‘super’ racemare who did win 17 of her 31 starts and some $388k in stakes. Connections have been patient with him and the tote is likely to reflect his true chances.

Nothing But You (3f Captaintreacherous – Bubbled Up) Tr. S Reid
Prepared for this latest campaign by placing in a couple of Rangiora trials through September behind the very smart filly Ripples and has now backed those efforts up with a couple of raceday seconds, the latest last week behind the promising One Eyed Bandit (2 wins from 3 starts), finishing 1/2L behind the winner after having little go her way in the running. Third up at Ashburton today where she has a very handy draw over the sprint trip of 1700m. Has won just once from only 8 starts (with another 3 placings) and now that second win looms as a real possibility.

Booty Shaker (2f Always B Miki – Ice Imperial) Tr. T Hopkins
Building nicely in her 4 races to date. Last start showed gate speed to lead and run down late by Time For Change at Auckland (24/10/25). Prior to that ran second in a 2 horse heat behind stablemate Cyclone Rebel in a 1:57.7MR, last 800m in 55.9 again at Auckland. She also led on that occasion. Goes to Cambridge this Friday (Race 8) where she has scored a sweet draw over the 1700m against other 2YO fillies. David Butcher to drive and likely to show her gate speed again. That maiden win looks close at hand
Ultimate Cullect (4m Ultimate Machete – Lady Go Cullect) Tr. B Gray
The winner of 5 from 19 starts who reappears at Wyndham this Sunday in Race 9. Hasn’t started on raceday since late August but did win a four-horse workout at Winton (7/11/25) after trailing then finishing on to get up narrowly over her stablemate The Big Lebowski who led. MR:2:00.8, 800m in 55.7, 400m in 27.2. Only has the 6 rivals to go up against and clearly well in at the ratings, hence the outside draw. Mark Hurrell who drove her in the workout, gets aboard again. Should be improved by this run but a bold showing is still expected
Cracker Opie (4g Bettor’s Delight – Saucy Operative) Tr. C Ferguson
Comes in fresh for the Addington assignment on Friday in (Race 2) and hasn’t raced since July but primed by two winning trials at Wyndham in early November. The latest effort he led out before trailing, back in front 500m out and cleared out from his rivals to win by 4.5L. MR:2:02.6, 800m in 56.9, 400m in 27.8. The winner of three of his 7 starts with another two placings, didn’t start on Cup day and has drawn the outside of the second line but so has the likely favourite Secret Agent Man who was very brave on Tuesday. The trials of the Ferguson runner suggests he will be ready.
Arthur Shelby (4g Bettor’s Delight – Racketeer’s Girl) Tr. B Hill
Fashioning a good horse’s record (7 starts for 5 wins and 2 placings) has been freshened since defeating smart 3YO Rubira (19/9/25) but has been back to the trials (24/10/25) where he won a two-horse heat after leading MR:2:05.0, 800m in 56.7, 400m in 27.4. Goes up against The Lazarus Effect on Friday at Addington in Race 13 and the Hill runner has drawn the second line with his main rival likely to find the front from a very handy draw. Both 4YOs and their race records very similar but Arthur likely to be offering better value. Exciting prospect going forward, certainly one to follow.
