NZB weanling sale this Thursday

More than 100 weanlings, from established as well as emerging sires, will go under the hammer when the NZB Standardbred weanling sales are held at Karaka this Thursday, a day before the Auckland Cup meeting at Alexandra Park.

Sixteen sires feature. In the pacing ranks Art Major, Sweet Lou and Downbytheseaside front up with the biggest numbers while super sire Bettor's Delight will be represented by just two fillies, including Lot 52 who is a full sister to Spanish Armada.

Buzz sire Always B Miki will have six lots, closely followed by Vincent (5).

Leading trotting sire What The Hill has a big presence, with 14 weanlings going through the ring, while Majestic Son has six.

The progeny of four first season stallions - Captain Crunch, Lather Up, Pastor Stephen and Speeding Spur - will be up for sale.

This is just the second weanling-only sale that NZB Standardbred has held. The first was last year when the two sales-toppers went for $36,000. They were an Art Major - Matavutu filly, and a Bettor's Delight - No Liability Colt.

Woodlands Stud and Alabar dominate the sale with 106 offerings, with Michele Carson (2) and Paulette Screen selling three colts between them.

The traditional parades of the weanlings will be held on Wednesday afternoon at Karaka, starting at 1.30 with the sale to begin on Thursday at 12 noon.

It will be live streamed on NZB Standardbred's Facebook page.
