JB Bloodstock set for Yearling sale debut

She may be only 24, but Jamie Bartlett has made a strong impression on the standardbred industry and is now presenting her first draft of yearlings at the upcoming NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale under her JB Bloodstock banner.

18 yearlings make up JB Bloodstock’s 2026 draft, with the emerging horsewoman backed by owners such as Yabby Dam Farms, Mason Bloodstock and Alabar Farms.

“I left school quite young, I knew I wanted to work with horses, but I didn’t know what part or where,” commented Bartlett.

“I ended up getting a job at Alabar and began working my way from the very bottom up. With Alabar’s operation then winding down here in New Zealand, I didn’t know what I was going to do next, but I knew I still loved preparing horses for sales.

“Graeme Henley has always supported me, and if it wasn’t for him, my parents and my partner, I would not have made that final step to go out under my own banner.”

Bartlett took an opportunity to travel overseas and get some sales experience in Ireland under her belt before her debut draft.

“I’m really happy with the yearlings. They’ve come along nicely since they arrived and I’m starting to see the type of horse they will become in February,” she added.

JB Bloodstock’s 18 yearlings are by a range of sires including pacers Huntsville, Always B Miki, Art Major, Captaintreacherous, American Ideal, and trotting sires Ready Cash and On a Streak.

“There is a horse for every type of market here, they are all worth a look.”

I’ve been really impressed by the trotters. I’m learning quite a lot about the breed. They are very lovely athletic types of horses, and easy to do anything with,” she added.

Set to be located at Barn F at Karaka, the first-time vendor is looking forward to the experience.

“There’s obviously a little bit of pressure being my first time as a preparer, but that is expected.”

“I’m really looking forward to it. I can’t wait to get them there and in front of the buyers and trainers.”

Selling kicks off at Karaka on Monday 16 February from 1pm (NZT). Attention will then turn to the Canterbury Agricultural Park where selling begins on Wednesday 18 February at 11am (NZT).

All horses purchased at the Sale are eligible for NZB Standardbred’s lucrative Harness Million Sales Race Series. The Series consists of principal two-year-old and three-year-old races for colts and geldings, fillies and trotters individually, where NZB Standardbred graduates can contest for their share in a $1m dollar prize pool.
