J T Boe too big in Hororata Cup

By Mike Love

J T Boe has earned "a couple of days off" after his impressive win in yesterday’s $20,000 Garrards Horse And Hound Hororata Cup at Methven.

Driven by Tim Williams, the Steve and Amanda Telfer-trained gelding was safely, albeit slowly, away from his 30 metre handicap.

After catching the field for a breather, Williams sent J T Boe on a mission from the mile marker to go up and sit parked.

Arresting the lead at the top of the straight he outmuscled Still Rockin and then fought off a game Buckskin to win by a head.

“He’s still got a lot to learn. He was getting tired but he still fought really hard to hold out Buckskin,” said co-trainer Amanda Telfer.

“He’s come a long way. We don’t know just how far he’s going to go. He’s a nice horse and doing it quite easy.

“He deserves a couple of days off after that.”

The Always B Miki five-year-old has now won nine from 21 starts and over $110,000 in stakes with Telfer suggesting there is plenty more in-store for the horse and their connections with a little more ringcraft.

“He’s a big Miki with still a lot of filling into his frame to do. We will just keep ticking a long, but I think he’ll be an ever better horse next time in.

“He has to get a little bit better from the stands. If he does he will probably aim for the Country Cups - but there are some other nice races coming up like the Uncut Gems and the Superstars.”

J T Boe is raced the Stonewall Stud Ltd and Small Car World Ltd.

Other highlights on the card included the promising Majestic Son trotter Lauzelle making it two wins from two starts for local trainer Stephen Williams while driver John Dunn produced a hat-trick of wins, Summer Rose for Ross Houghton, Amalfi for Robert Stuart and Silvester for Graeme Telfer.
