Halfway mark in annual Team Teal campaign

With over $13,000 in the kitty, Harness Racing New Zealand's Team Teal campaign is at its halfway point.

The annual campaign to raise awareness about ovarian cancer and funds towards research started at the beginning of the month and goes through to March 15.

Money is raised every time a female driver wins a race in this country during the six weeks, with extra funds coming from the five Ambassadors. Their contribution to the campaign comes per win from HRNZ ($100), selected clubs and individual sponsors.

Ambassador Crystal Hackett leads the way with eight wins, following a treble at Alexandra Park on Friday night, two ahead of another ambassador in Kirstin Green (6).

Overall there were a further 16 wins over the weekend, taking the total to 45.

That puts the total raised so far at $13,345.

So far more than $50,000 has been raised across New Zealand and Australia this year. The campaign started in Australia before branching out to New Zealand in 2018. It's been held here annually ever since.

A big fund-raising night is being organised for Addington on Friday, March 13. The night will feature the final of the Frocks at the Trots fashion competition with the $60 tickets also including a drink on arrival, a buffet dinner and other race night entertainment.
