COVID names in demand

As the country embraces the freedom of Alert Level One there may still be a reminder of COVID-19 on our racetracks in the years to come.

Four coronavirus- related names have been approved by Harness Racing New Zealand.

Social Distancing was always going to get snapped up pretty quickly, with the 2018 bay colt being out of a Socialiser mare.

Bred and owned by Trevor Casey, Isolate is out of his 11-win trotter Escapee, while Bob Butt and Birchbrook Breeding have claimed the name Pandemic for a Love you colt.

The name from Chinese city where COVID-19 originated has also been taken. Wuhan (Gold Ace – Mapua Mabel) was foaled in November 2019.

Beat The Covid has also been submitted. On today of all days it’s a sentiment many can no doubt relate to.
