Change to NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales Aged Classic eligibility

The NZ Sires’ Stakes Board is pleased to announce a significant eligibility change for the NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales Aged Classic, to be held at Kaikoura on Monday, November 3.

Traditionally restricted to Harness Million eligible horses and four-year-old and older pacers that had both the Vendor and Purchaser Nomination Fee paid at the time of the PGG Wrightson Yearling Sale, the race will now be open to all horses that have passed through the sales ring at an NZB Standardbred Weanling or Yearling Sale, regardless of Harness Million eligibility status.

This broader eligibility marks a deliberate shift toward greater inclusivity while still recognising the importance of the Harness Million pathway. Accordingly, preference will continue to be given to Harness Million eligible horses should the field be oversubscribed.

Summary:

Open to all horses (four-years-old and up) that went through the ring at any NZB Standardbred Weanling or Yearling Sale
No longer restricted to Harness Million eligible horses only
Preference still given to Harness Million eligible entries
Horses must have gone through the ring to be eligible
This initiative aims to support a broader group of owners and breeders who invest in the NZB Standardbred sales system, providing them with a valuable opportunity to target one of the highlights of the Kaikoura Cup meeting.
