Alabar's new breeding initiative
Leading stud Alabar is "gifting" 30 of its mares to breeders around the country.
"We don't only need more foals bred but more people breeding foals," says Alabar NZ General Manager Graeme Henley, "and we want to make it easy for them."
To that end Alabar has come with up with a new idea to offer 30 of its mares free of charge. But it does come with conditions.
"The mare must be bred to an Alabar stallion at Alabar NZ this year," says Henley.
Among the stallions on their roster are Always B Miki, Art Major, Captain Crunch, Majestic Son, and Tactical Approach.
"We think the time is right to make this offer to breeders in light of HRNZ's most recent announcements."
Released earlier this month, HRNZ's "Future Starts Now' initiative features $10m in increased funding for the 2024-25 season.
"Only the service fee will be payable," says Henley, "no agistment or veterinary fees will be payable and once the service fee is paid the mare is yours."
