One of New Zealand’s most promising trotters has been lost to the industry. Sales Series winner You Rock was put down yesterday after veterinary advise that he was suffering from degenerative arthritis.
The four-year-old has looked something special on occasions last season but missed many of the feature races because of the early signs of the problem. A veterinary examination yesterday determined not only that he was no longer a racing proposition but more importantly that nothing could be done to ease his discomfort.
“So we had no chance, as sad as it was, because we wouldn’t let him live in pain,” said trainer Ray Green.
The loss caps a horror week for Lincoln Farms after they were forced to scratch stable star Sir Lincoln from the New Zealand Cup because of hoof soreness.
A former top trotting yearling at the Karaka yearling sales, You Rock won six of his 12 starts.
