Much has already been seen and spoken about the likes of Terror To Love, Auckland Reactor, Franco Ledger and others in the NZ Cup build up so far. To date Gold Ace had been one of the quiet ones. He is yet to run this season but all reports suggest Gold Ace is ready for the biggest season of his career. At Rangiora’s workouts on Saturday we saw evidence of this with a strong win and how that form may relate to this Friday night at Addington.
Gold Ace was an impressive winner over Mach Banner at the workouts on Saturday. Settling at the rear off his 30m handicap, trainer Steven Reid didn’t move with the Bettor’s Delight entire until approaching the bell. He wound up parked outside Mach Banner who had moved midrace to secure his spot.
Gold Ace eyeballed Mach Banner, rounding the final bend and under minimal duress he overwhelmed him in the shadows of the post. It was a very good hit-out for Gold Ace who is set to be taking on a stern test first-up this Friday in the Avon City Ford Cup at Addington.
Gold Ace put some good numbers up on Saturday too. Privately timed he ran his last 800m 54.7, his last 400m in 27.1 and last 2400m in a solid 3.00.8. Those are the sorts of numbers he needed to put up going into this week’s race and he did, with consummate ease.
Mach Banner was solid in second in the heat. He did everything right and made his move to arrest the lead from stablemate Montecrengle earlier in the race. It was a good hit-out for him and a better result than his last race start where he missed away. Reid’s other runner Easy On The Eye made up good late ground to miss third by a nose. Montegcrengle ran well for a horse of his class to nab that third spot.
In the Avon City Ford Cup this Friday Gold Ace is likely to be joined by Terror To Love, Auckland Reactor, Sushi Sushi, Franco Emirate, Mah Sish, Mach Banner and many others.
