The postponed first day of the Nelson winter meeting gave punters plenty to ponder. Looking forward to Tuesday’s second day we have found some noteworthy performances to throw into the ‘Black Book’.
Race 2 - Lively Tintara(8): had no luck on day one. He broke early and when looking to run on in the straight met a terminal check. He looked well and will start at generous odds.
Race 4 - Colonel Custard(1): ran possibly one of his best career races. After settling parked he was shuffled back but made a spirited run home for fourth. Great combinations option with another Black Booker from Sunday in Cool Johnny.
Race 5 – Another Player(11): turned in a huge performance after breaking at the start. One would assume the step up to 3000m would aid her chances also.
Race 7 – Givethejobtobarnsey(9): ran one of the fastest last 800m of the day and came via stables around the home turn for his fourth. Though drawn badly he looms large.
Race 8 – Woodlea Hero(1): got back on the markers and was never in clear air in the straight. Could add some value to combination bets from his favourable draw.
Race 10 – Living Lord(5): was held up and shuffled back at a vital stage on Sunday. Rattled home when clear and looks a standout on paper.
Race 11 – Donegal Forty Seven(11): put in a courageous performance on Sunday. Forced to race three-wide for the last lap, he was coming again right near the finish. Nice value option in a very even field.
Race 12 – Marhabah(2): was arguably a tragedy beaten on Sunday when checked and galloping inside the last 1000m. Faces a good horse in Hurricane Bromac here but will give him plenty to think about.
