On Monday night at the Victoria track of Horsham, Dexter Dunn beat an elite field of invited Australian Drivers in the Noel Smith Memorial Invitational Drivers Championship.
Dunn left his run late in the three-race series, taking out the last of the three heats on Saab gelding, Final Count, to take a slender win over Gavin Lang, Kerryn Manning and Daryl Douglas.
The win is yet another feather in Dunn’s cap. It is amazing to think he has driven nearly 900 winners in his brief career to date. The hit-and-run mission will see Dunn back in New Zealand on Thursday to resume normal duties.
Dunn will return home to focus on the Harness Jewels and his association with possible favourites, Onlyforyou, in the 2YO Diamond division for the juvenile fillies and Sheemon in the two-year-old trotters’ section.
