RACE 1: THURSDAY NIGHT PICK SIX $50,000 CLOSES 8.12PM TONIGHT MOBILE PACE

Due to the inclement weather Stewards instructed all trainers to affix mudguards and wet weather dust sheets to their sulkies. An announcement was made to this effect. Trainer B R Hill (ULTIMATE PLAYER) was charged a $25 colour fee. AZIZA broke in the score up and was back several lengths as the start was effected with the connections being advised that a warning had been placed on their filly's mobile barrier manners. CRUZ CONTROL broke with 1500m to run when racing on the inside of ULTIMATE PLAYER causing interference to FRANCO QUARRY, EYE BOLT and OURSJEAN. Driver T S Chmiel (FRANCO QUARRY) advised he was unable to fully drive the gelding out over the final stages due to this horse hanging. Trainer J M Howe (SIR VARNO) was warned to ensure he affixes mudguards when required. Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 869(8) against the 1st placing of ULTIMATE PLAYER (R T May) for alleged interference to CRUZ CONTROL (C McDowell) with 1500m to run resulting in CRUZ CONTROL breaking and losing all chance. After viewing the films and hearing the evidence the JCA upheld the protest and disqualified ULTIMATE PLAYER. The amended placings now read FRANCO QUARRY 1st, SIR VARNO 2nd, VALHALLA 3rd, EYE BOLT 4th, EXCEL BROMAC 5th and FALSE PROMISE 6th. Driver R T May admitted an associated charge under Rule 869(3)(b) careless driving and was fined the sum of $350 by the J.C.A.
RACE 2: GARRARD'S HORSE AND HOUND MOBILE PACE

SOUTHERN SALLY was back a length as the start was effected despite the efforts of driver M J Williamson. The connections were advised that a warning had been placed on their mare's mobile barrier manners. RUSTY REARDON hung shortly after the start and again with 1400m to run. AZRA after leading, trailed from the 1000m and commenced to weaken leaving the 800m and tired noticeably rounding the final bend with the connections being warned to improve their mare's racing performance. WICKLOW paced roughly over the final stages. Driver C D Thornley was questioned regarding the performance of AMELIE which improved three wide to lead with 1000m to run and tired in the run home. Mr Thornley advised the mare had received every opportunity. STICKY FINGERS (favourite) improved three wide with cover from the 1600m to race parked from the 900m and fought on in the home straight to finish in 4th place.
RACE 3: GEORGE CALVERT CLEANING TROT

A Veterinary certificate of clearance was received for CARAMEL CENTRE after the mare was a late scratching from the Ashburton TC meeting on the 25th of June 2010. At the start or over the early stages POPPA JACK, BETTY BE GOOD, PAMMYS BOY, HE TROTTS and NATIVE'S BRITE SPARK broke. After 150m HEZA BRITESPARK and IN LIKE MAGIC broke. POPPA JACK broke again racing into the first bend. NATIVE'S BRITE SPARK struck several pylons when hanging in with 1500m to run. MAYSOON (favourite) broke when leading with 1100m to run losing considerable ground. ZICO broke when improving three wide with 600m to run and again with 200m to run. Driver A M Butt when questioned regarding the breaking of MAYSOON advised the mare had hung in and broken as a result. Mr Butt also advised he was pleased with the mare's performance thereafter.
RACE 4: WWW.GRAEMEBICKLEY.COM HANDICAP PACE

Prior to this event the track was downgraded to easy. HILARIOUS LIFE, SPLENDIFFEROUS and TALKATIVE HIGH broke over the early stages. DREAMONA'S LADY when racing on the inside of MINTY MELLOW struck a pylon and broke briefly with 2200m to run checking WILL PLAY which lost all chance. It was observed that the off-side rein came adrift from FAWN LAKE (T M Williams) which was racing prominently with 1600m to run resulting in all runners racing wider on the track thereafter in the interests of safety. RUBY RIVER raced greenly in the run home. A hopple on DREAMONA'S LADY broke over the final stages with this gear being inspected and found to be in satisfactory condition. Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 869(8) against the 3rd placing of MINTY MELLOW (C J De Filippi) on the grounds of alleged interference to DREAMONA'S LADY (B N Orange) and subsequent interference to WILL PLAY (C McDowell) after 400m. After viewing the films and hearing the evidence the JCA upheld the protest and disqualified MINTY MELLOW. The amended placings now read DREAMONA'S LADY 1st, UNO ALICE 2nd, KATCHAFILLIE 3rd, DYING TO RULE 4th, BG TOWN 5th and HILARIOUS LIFE 6th. Driver C J De Filippi admitted an associated charge under Rule 869(3)(b) careless driving and was fined the sum of $350 by the JCA. Trainer L R Smart (FAWN LAKE) admitted a breach of Rule 864(2)(d) in that he failed to affix the off-side rein so as not to come adrift and was fined the sum of $200 by the JCA.
RACE 5: LORRAINE FIELD - CARL MARSHALL MOBILE PACE

ATOM OF COURAGE was a late scratching at 3.50pm with a Veterinary certificate to be supplied. Prior to this event the track was downgraded to slushy. The start of this event was delayed due to the protest in the previous race. As the start was effected DONT TELL MUM broke checking HIGHVIEW PHANTOM with the connections warned to improve the gelding's mobile start manners. ROMAN AFFAIR struck several pylons rounding the final bend. FRANCO TIJUANA (favourite) after settling three back on the markers improved to sit parked with 1300m to run before gaining cover with 1100m to run and was held up rounding the final bend before gaining clear racing room late in the run home to finish in 5th place. Driver C D Thornley when questioned regarding the performance of this colt advised the horse had not trialled this preparation and he was pleased with the effort after being denied clear racing room. Authorisation of 4th placing being awarded to ROMAN AFFAIR was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had not protruded inside the marker line in excess of 30m rounding the final bend. Driver T S Chmiel was questioned regarding the lack lustre performance of JURYMAN and advised that the gelding had raced without enthusiasm and was at a loss to explain the effort. Trainer J H Gameson admitted a breach of Rule 864(2)(d) in that he failed to affix the pull down blinds on TUSCANY GOLD so as not to malfunction and was fined the sum of $100 by the JCA. Trainer L C Driver with D Halliday acting as agent admitted a breach of Rule 864(2)(d) in that he failed to affix the pull down blinds on BOOGIE'S BARNETT so as not to malfunction and was fined the sum of $100 by the JCA.
RACE 6: ANGUS MEATS STEAKS MOBILE PACE

TOWNEY was back several lengths as the start was effected after being slow to leave the pre-race circle. LINEL paced roughly and broke after 200m settling at the rear of the field. MISTER POWELL was denied clear racing room in the run home. Trainer M G Larter (LINEL) advised the gelding would be turned out for six weeks and would be returning to the trials prior to resuming. Driver G D Smith (SUNNIVUE IMPULSE) admitted a breach of Rule 507A in that he failed to be available to take his engagement until five minutes prior to the start and was fined the sum of $100 by the JCA
RACE 7: CAVELL LEITCH LAW MOBILE PACE

FIERY RASCAL and BRAMLEY TOWN struck several pylons rounding the final bend. A knee boot was observed to come down on BRAMLEY TOWN.
RACE 8: CHRISTCHURCH CASINO MOBILE PACE

A hopple on RURAL JACK broke rounding the final bend resulting in this gelding breaking and losing all chance. The gear was inspected and found to be in satisfactory condition. Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of A MAGIC PLACE after this gelding appeared lame during the running which revealed a strained suspensory ligament on its off front leg. The connections were advised that a Veterinary certificate of clearance must be forwarded to HRNZ prior to this gelding resuming racing.
RACE 9: BROWN AND PATERSON PANELBEATERS CLAIMERS MOBILE PACE

LIQUIDITY paced roughly over the final stages. HUNDRED ON THE RED was denied clear racing room late in the run home. I'M A DAZZLER (favourite) raced towards the rear of the field before improving three wide with a lap to run to gain the one one and was held up for clear racing room in the run home finishing in 5th place. Driver T S Chmiel when questioned regarding the performance of this gelding advised the horse had felt flat tonight and that although denied clear racing room in the run home the horse had received every opportunity. No horses were claimed in this event.
RACE 10: PENINSULAR BEACHFRONT RESORT PACE

Permission was granted for the boring pole to removed from LORD BRASSEY prior to the start. At the start RUNNING UNDER FIRE and CALL ME DANNY broke. Passing the 1000m LORD BRASSEY gave ground with the connections warned to improve the gelding's racing performance. Leaving the 800m ILLUMAWAY (favourite T M Williams) contacted the sulky of NOT HOME ENOUGH resulting in ILLUMAWAY falling. Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of this horse which revealed superficial wounds to its knees and face. Driver T M Williams was unharmed. Junior Horseman T M Williams in the presence of Senior Horseman J R Dunn admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when driving ILLUMAWAY and was fined the sum of $250 by the JCA. Driver S D Lethaby was questioned regarding the performance of AVICMARO and stated he was disappointed with the filly's performance after she had received every opportunity and also advised this filly would be turned out for a spell.

Race 10: Trainer N R McGrath admitted a breach of Rule 865(2). The particulars being that Mr McGrath was late in advising DUDINKA'S CHRISTIAN would not be racing with pull down blinds as previously notified and was fined the sum of $50 by the J.C.A.
This may not necessarily be the last report pertaining to this meeting as all race videos will be further reviewed.
